Landcruiser 1995 LJ79
Hi
I am looking at a Toyota Landcruiser 1995 LJ79, 2.8 diesel, spring suspension vehicle as a possibility to use as an overland vehicle to travel from SA to Tunisia. Can anyone help on the below: Parts availability throughout Africa? Size of engine suitability for fully loaded vehicle? Reliability of engine? Suitability of vehicle in offroad conditions? Anyone had experience using this vehicle for overlanding? Your thoughts and comments would be most welcome. Thanks |
?
I think you might be mistaken with the model number? My understanding is that the only cruiser to bear 79 in the designation is the heavy duty pickup which started being made in 1998? Can you clarify a little as the 79 was never made with a 2.8 engine.
Cheers, Gil Found it! My mistake. 3L engine so engine parts would not be a problem, and i would imagine the rest is a mixture of hilux/70 series gear so probably parts can be got but maybe not such an easy vehicle as the ubiquitous hilux/75/78/79/80 or Defender. Sorry I can't add more than that!! Gil |
Tlc 79
Hi Franci
I would not hesitate to use a 79 that has been properly prepped - complete service/overhaul of appropriate mechanics and running gear. The 3.0 litre engine if well serviced/looked after should be good for several overland trips then some - only restriction on this truck will be the space constraints that you will be well aware of.
