LED Lighting
Hi,
Has anyone used the new aftermarket LED lighting that's on the market? In the rough, I usually end up blowing tail/side lights on my 110 and was wondering if this may be a better option? Thanks, Nick. ------------------ www.nickt.com 96 BMW F650 96 Defender 90 300TDi 97 NAS D90 98 Camel Trophy 110 |
I haven’t used them myself but a couple of friends tried them and they wouldn’t go back to bulbs. LED last much longer, have better tolerance to vibration and consume less power. However there are some led units out there which simply don’t put out enough light for automotive applications, so make sure they’re bright enough. I heard good things about Truck-Lite.
Hope this helps. ------------------ A.B. OasisPhoto.com – Images from the Magical Sahara. ShortWheelbase.com – Jeep preparations. [This message has been edited by A.B. (edited 28 May 2003).] |
Thanks for the info. I checked out TruckLite and they only seem to do whole replacement units, not just the bulbs.
I did find some LED replacement bulbs for the rear from http://www.xtremewhite.com/ When I get them I'll let you know how they are. Cheers, Nick. ------------------ www.nickt.com 96 BMW F650 96 Defender 90 300TDi 97 NAS D90 98 Camel Trophy 110 |
So I tried these for the brake/rear lights and they were crap. Just not bright enough - I was surprised at that as I'd heard the LEDs should be brighter. It seems the LED cluster size is small to fit standard rear lights.
Anyway, back to the bulbs... Rgds, Nick. ------------------ Nick Taylor ------------------ Vehicle Specs |
I bought a pair of led stop / brake light units for the 110 last week, they wouldn't fit - too big to go in the bulb holder. And the sticker on the back said the weren't street legal, but the bod in the shop assured me that "they use the same packaging for all types" - legal and otherwise. Thought I'd try them for use in Africa anyway.
Where can you get legal versions in the UK that are worth buying? Andrew. [This message has been edited by Andrew Baker (edited 01 March 2005).] |
