NEED GOOD TYRES?
hi
I got a little bit stupid question. I have no money for new tyres (BFG AT) and considering of doing on old tyres(Bridgestone Dueler HT) 5000km in marocco (inc. Southern Hamada and trip down to smara wia.desert) what u think about that? Is that a stupid idea or not? Thanks BeeTer toyota hilux 2.4D [This message has been edited by beeter (edited 11 January 2004).] |
IMO I don't think it's a stupid idea. I haven't used them but think the H/T is probably a good choice for sand as it is a road tyre, so will not dig you in as much as an A/T would.
So long as the tyres are in good condition (undamaged) then I would prefer to take tyres with some use on them as any manufacturing defects should have shown up (four of my tyres were made in 1989, 2 in 1994 - maybe this is a little extreme!) Spend some of the money you saved on a 2nd spare wheel/tyre instead :-) Hope this helps, Ian |
thanks a lot for your reply.
And what about the trip via hamada? will such a tires handle on all that rocky trials? Got one more question. What do you think about using them with tubes? maybe that will improve in some way innability for having puncutres on my way througt marocco? Cheers Peter hilux 2.4D |
Hi,
How did the Bridgestone HT Dueler do it in Morocco? I'm taking my Nissan Pickup to Morocco for a 4000 km trip, mostly te usual pistes in the south and mountainpistes in the High Atlas. I now have the standaard HT Duelers. Will the perform good enough? As this trip is probably a one time event I don't really want to spend much money on AT tires which after the trip I will use mostly for commuting. Peter |
Ex military tyres are quite a good bet as well, michelins are very tough and are now coming onto the market and a 7.50x16 will fit a hilux
