Peugoet 505 4x4
So if you're on a tight budget, how perfect is the Peugoet 505 4x4 break (estate)...
Or maybe not ? |
Are you talking about the Dangel conversion? If so, you'll have no trouble getting the Peugeot bits fixed in Africa (or indeed anywhere else that old Pugs still survive) but from memory, though I stand to be corrected, the front axle and the transfer box aren't Peugeot so getting bits will be a problem. They were extensively used by the French Government agencies (Police etc) in overseas territories in years gone past so must have been pretty tough. Fast they aren't though!

I love the old Peugeot 505's and 504's and 404's! And the Dangle ones look just the part.
I don't know much about the conversion, but I know the normal 2WD ones are very good. They do suffer from rust though... Cheers, Matt Savage enjoying a jam sandwich! |
So the rest of us know what you are talking about, here are a few pictures:

Well you learn something new everday - looks like a good thing if not too much rust.
Just right with my porridge:thumbup1: |

fry up for elevenses |
The more I think about it the more I like the idea. The rear overhang might cause a few problems but for rough tracks and not too soft sand it could be good - pick-up version sounds even better.

I've heard they had some issues when taken real extreme, don't know exactly and I remember vaguely something with exhaust pipes overheating the fuel-intake. But there are enough sites to explore and become familiar with these beauties. The pickup (flatbed) has always been my childhood-dream. BTW the french company who build them (official-approved conversions) still excistes, Dangel 4x4 Experts en systèmes 4 roues motrices they still convert different Citroën, FIAT and Peugeot vehicles. Vans but also the berlingo and partner. New! Ohh, I just thrown in a quick googlesearch , accidently (or not) there is a 505 for sale in the Netherlands (no, I got nothing to do with it) Marktplaats.nl > Peugeot 505 Dangel Familiale 4X4 GR GTI - Auto's - Peugeot Beautifull ... red ... I'm tempted but ... phew it's not a diesel, and RHD, no, no, no I'm not going for it ... cheers, zipping away another espresso... |
Interesting to see the Dangel 4x4 Campervan conversions on their site, now that could make for luxury.
There's an ancient 504 pick-up near me which is going strong despite being full of rust holes - Lord only knows how it passes its Controle Technique. |
Old Nail
Few, I was starting to think I was the only one who loved these old beasts....
Rust will be the killer but I recon its worth spending the money / time if you can find one, however the red one looks great... Then the next problem will be everyone wanting to steal it as soon as you land in north africa... :-) Just read the sales blerb, its fitted with a front winch !!! ohhh very retro ccol... |
