propane outside of North America

I did a search on the site and what I found was old news with links that no longer work.

I will leave Canada in July 2023 with a Tacoma and possibly a slide-in pop up camper.

My question is, is there any international connector, adapter, regulator... for a 20 pound propane tank? Or will I have to buy a new tank from time to time in some countries and make it fit for the fridge and or stove i will be using?

Even if I go with a top roof tent, i will still have to use propane to cook.

Any advice.

Thanks.

I can't offer any advice myself, but here is a link to an excellent article by a very well respected boater about the issue of different propane connectors in various parts of the world.

I think you will find a lot of useful information there, as well as links that you can follow to find more details.

The author is like many of us, travelling all over the world, the only difference is that he uses a large trawler boat instead of a motorcycle or 4 wheel vehicle.

Here's the link: And We Have Propane...

Hi,

our workaround is an LPG nozzle to propane Tank adapter. Can't speak for the Americas but works pretty much for Europe, Turkey and all former Soviet Union members. Wherever LPG filling stations are available you can refill. Not always legal but usually it works.

In Africa LPG is not that common but a lot of people cook with gas. Most of the filling places where pretty creative and got us gas. A connector to your propane tank with an open hose helps.

Regards
Bernd

As we are able to read many many pages on travel blogs, those Adapters are often hard to find.

And what is helpful for a german vehicle at example, will not help in canada, because you do use probably other connectors.

At example, I did bought a van in switzerland, did use more than 12hours for a deeper research, how I am be able to get an Campinggaz-Adapter to use other gasbottles/cartridges for my campinggaz cooker:

Did work fine at the end (i did order 6 different, one of it did work), and I did wrote about in my Blog. Just to hear that it will works just on German sold cars, because we did use others in Switzerland. I did buy ny car in switzerland - but seams to get the "wrong" connectors.

But anyway - it will help me on internatioal journeys, those small gas cartridges are easy to find - and let me look for those campinggaz bottles much more relaxed...

Guess you had to connect with travelers out of your homecountry, to find the right adapters and connectors. Otherwise you will carry stuff, who dont will work at the end (because you are not able to test them)...

@PanEuropean

Excellent link! Who shows that we are able to refill world wide - but not so easy.
