Raised air intake for Sahara use
I’m planning to install a raised air intake (RAI) with a cyclone pre-filter on a Nissan Patrol.
Does anybody have an opinion on their functionality: do RAI really keep the air filter clean ? Are they worth the monetary effort ? Or cleaning manually the filter after the more dusty sections is good enough (as I have been doing for a while..) ? Should I expect a significant loss of power in the engine ? Thanks, José |
José,
RAI (or snorkel to the uninitiated) was invented in Australia for that particular reason. >>> do RAI really keep the air filter clean ? Yes, for longer... >>> Are they worth the monetary effort ? They don't cost an arm and a leg ... >>> Or cleaning manually the filter after the more dusty sections is good enough (as I have been doing for a while..) ? I'd rather have a cool beer instead ... >>> Should I expect a significant loss of power in the engine ? Not likely, if properly installed ... Rgds, Roman (UK) |
Hi!!
I have a RAI with a cyclone top. With the circulation of the dust/air, the dust wich is heavier is separated and the air that enters the filter case is therefor cleaner! Use large diameter pipes and avoid sharp corners and you will be fine about power loss. Abraços, Renato Braz www.AventuraS3.com |
Hi
Q1. Yes Q2. Yes Q3. No Q4. No I'd go for the RAI/ Snorkel anytime - as long as it is properly fitted. Cheers ------------------ ChrisC |
