Ring RAC900 Air Compressor
 

Does anybody have any experience of the Ring RAC900 Air Compressor?

Seems to get good reviews around the web on campervan sites etc.
Hose etc all included appears to be a good deal?

there is only ONE suitable air compressor around for traveling on motorcycles, that is worth spending money for !
and it's the one you only will buy ones for the rest of your biking live !

ok not the cheapest item but remember you only buy "one" good compressor and not many cheap every so often... saving you money in the long run.

Ohh yeah and while you are on ZEN Overland doing your shopping... get your self a Motion Pro - T6 Combo Lever as well to round your toolbox up... to be able to safe on weight and taking the wheel nut off.

Thanks for the reply, I had previously looked at that pump for my motorcycle however as the trip has changed to using a 4x4 I'm after a somewhat larger compressor than the cycle pump.

The Ring compressor seems lowish output, it would take a while to inflate four big 4x4 tyres with it.

Top of the tree in my opinion are the VIAIR compressors that Matt Savage sells, but they are very pricey.

We have recently started selling a lot of the T-Max compressors, they are a lot cheaper that the VIAIRs, not so refined, but can belt out some air (ISTR 160l/min) with a reasonable duty cycle.

I couldn't recommend them over VIAIR because I don't know what they are like long term, but so far so good. If you aren't planning a major round the world trip they are well worth considering.

Been using one of these for four years and still working fine.

Sorry it's not got a fancy name or marketing budget though.

That's great, had been looking at the T-max as the budget viair option. Whilst I'd be looking at it for RTW trip I wouldn't be looking at loads of inflation from sand use etc. As always it's a balance of quality/price/reliability/etc.
That Paddock one is coming in remarkably cheap (reasonable!) though. Would like to see some specifications of it at that price.

The aforementioned 'Cycle Pump' is used by the US military on Hummers. It might not be fast inflation, but it must be reliable.

A decent hand pump is an excellent backup and can be had for $40-50 with a bit of shopping.

I'm guessing the Ring model quote of 55L/min is at zero psi, which really is meaningless. Although I've never timed it, I believe the quote of the paddock one at it "Will easily pump a large Land Rover size tyre from 15 PSI to 32PSI in 1.5 minutes" to be correct.

End of the day, anywhere there are other vehicles around will have a method to inflate tyres not far away.

I've got a T-max one and am very pleased with it. I have found that I use it more than I thought I would when surfaces change.
