any votes for silver nitrate to keep the tank contents clean? wikipedias blurb is interesting for it, USA had an upper limit on drinking water supplies content until they discovered that exceeding it gave no serious damaging effect on your body. so there is now no upper limit- the pic of some poor bloke permanently turned blue having too much silver in his body (argyria) is shocking! not serious??? who are they kidding?!?!

I got a bit lost while taking a walk round the outskirts of Fez one day, and ended up alongside an alleyway behind a shop.

Caught a shopkeeper bent over a hundred or so empty water bottles and filling them with a dirty hose - there was a bottle/capping machine next to him, and they were obvisously bound for his shop fridge.
I doubt he's the only 'resourceful' shopkeeper in Africa.

Quite amusing watching him trying to cover up what he was doing though while inviting me in his shop to buy some of his quality wares..

We used General Ecology Nature Pure system on our Asia trip- it was superb. Unlike our European counterparts who were having to brush and scrape their ceramic systems every 3-5 days!!
We've upgraded to a larger vehicle and have now purchased the Seagull system- the initial outlay is more but the filters have a larger litre capacity, so it works out to be more economical in the long run. The only thing we've noted is that the bracket to hold the filter is not so secure- but that could be us rather than the item!!

finally went for a portable GE filter - "travel" something or other as I felt it is a bit more flexible in that I can filter the water I only really need to rather than needlessly filtering shower and dishes water... A bit cheaper than the seagull too, and means clean water is not just tied to the vehicle. Of course it will be a while before I get my hands on it... as it has to go to Germany then Ghana. Thanks again all for advice and opinion,
