Alps Passes from Andermatt to Oberwald
There's a few of us heading down to 3999 Oberwald , Switzerland next Monday and we here that the Furka pass road (between Andermatt and Oberwald) is still closed - scheduled to open 5 June.
Is there any other way to get to Oberwald from the North by road? The hotel manager says there is a train that we can bring the bikes on via the 15.4 km tunnel (train) from Realp (past Andermatt) - supposedly runs every 30 minutes. Has anyone done used the train route? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. |
Furka and Susten passes still closed- no guesses who had to route ' the longer way around' - no regret though - beautiful scenery so don't worry especially if you are camping :thumbup1: and fuel is cheaper in Switzerland too
Train route- yes I have- The train is a basically a shell- they will not tie the bikes down- that is up to you IF you are fast enough- they don' t hang around and the wind blast in the tunnel standing up holding a heavy bike is.....fun-ish:rofl: |
Thanks Bert!

Hi guys,
I'll be heading that way around the 8th June, do you have any idea whether the 5th June opening will stand?? Sam |
Sam,
Don't know - the 5th is what the Hotel Guy said. I'll try to get an update when we leave the area on the morning of 3 Jun and post back here. |
That would be great if you can, thanks
Have a great trip:clap: |
Sam,
You should be OK for the 8th June. We drove up approx 5 miles from the Oberwald side last night (even though it was "closed") and it looked like they were still cleaning up the road. Two of the guys went up from the Adermatt side today but turned back as it was a little gusty (and it was still "closed"). Good luck! |
That's great, thanks very much for posting
Just getting the last few bits together and heading for Dover on Thursday so fingers crossed |
