Budapest to Istanbul
 

We're on the road at the moment and have arrived in Budapest and heading onwards towards Istanbul. We've been told that the easiest route is through Serbia but we were originally planning to go through Romania. Can anyone throw some advice our way? Is there complicated border crossings on either route that we need to negotiate, which roads are better, more interesting.

Check your insurance. Serbia will probably not be covered on your european cover and will skin you 80eur at the border for the minimum 1 month they insist on. Roads are pretty decent in Serbia though for quick progress, dunno about Romania.
