Buying a bike in Spain
Can anyone help with a reliable yamaha dealer in Spain. Looking to buy a bike and have absolutely no starting point so any advice will be well appreciated.
Thanks Martin |
When I lived in Spain a few years ago, bikes were nearly impossible to obtain without and address and as a non-citizen, jumping through hoops and knowing someone. I have heard UK is the best source for buying a bike.

Not easy
Hi,
I also lived in Spain for a long time, and without the right papers it's not possible. I don't think a dealer can even sell to you without everything in order. If you buy a vehicle without doing it right then it could spell trouble because in Spain, debts stay with the vehicle unless transferred correctly. Paul |
Foreigners, whether from the European Union or not, may buy a car in Spain, either a second or a new one, and have their car to use in Spain for a total of 6 months (it is not necessarily a 6-month continuous period) in any calendar year.
In order to buy a Spanish-registered vehicle, foreigners need to meet one of the following requirements:
If you buy a second-hand car in Spain, whether privately or from a car dealer, you should be provided with the following documents:
Either the seller or buyer, depending on what both parties agreed, shall apply for a new registration certificate, in order to transfer the ownership of the vehicle (notificación de transferencia de vehículos), obtainable from the provincial traffic department. Both parties must sign this document. The buyer must pay:
The seller is liable for the later possible imperfections of the vehicle, which could not be discovered by a non-expert car buyer. Private buyers may renounce this guarantee, however, the dealer is mandatory responsible for imperfections on the car. About the car insurance: If you buy a second hand car you may subrogate the seller's car insurance, the insurance company shall be informed about this. Make sure that the seller is current in his periodic payments, otherwise once the vehicle is transferred, you will be liable for the amounts pending of payment. |
Forgot to say I got my bike from here - :: Cial. Navarro Hermanos, S.A. :: Motos, coches sin carnet, Quads, Bicicletas, Recambios motos y coches, Maquinaria, Herramientas, Pintura profesional y particular. They are a big Yamaha dealer based in Malaga.

Not sure where you're from, but I also read that non-EU residents can buy and register bikes in Andorra, although there is a registration tax involved which makes it kind of expensive (7%?). I looked at this about a year ago, not sure if it is still possible or if it is the best way to proceed.
