Buying a bike in Ukraine
My Drz was stolen a few days ago in Kiev (post in hubb pub) which has put a big spanner in the works for my plan to make it to magadan.
What I'm wondering is if anyone has experience of buying a bike in Ukraine and taking it across the Russian border? Flying back to Ireland and starting from scratch will put me under a lot of time pressure to beat winter by the time I source, register and cover the mileage back to here. I'll post something similar in the Northern Asia forum in case its possible in Russia. Thanks Tadhg |
hmmm did you find anything out?
consider also buying in other parts of East Europe |
Not possible to register it unless you are a Ukrainian resident. Can be bought in a Ukrainians name and taken across the border with a notary letter though.
I've gone the stupid route and I am travelling via train and bus via moscow to aktobe where I'm picking up a Honda C90 kindly offered by a fellow Hubb member and continuing on that if I can get across the Kazakh border without it being confiscated. Bit of a difference to my Drz400! |
The log book will still be in his name so best to get the owner to photo copy a page of there passport on A4 paper along with him writting and signing it to say he allows you to ride his bike and scan/email it across
Its a foreign bike with a foreign rider so with this you should be ok, well you would hope so Better than nothing |
Transfer of ownership should already be in progress at home. Irish registration is an easy enough affair and when a friend rang to explain my difficulties they promised to expedite it.
For the time being I have a "corrected" scan of the current logbook which will hopefully tide me over until the border. The C90 has overstayed its customs welcome so that will be my biggwst hurdle but if I can get to Kyrgyzstan it'll all be good. |
