Buying Used Motorcycle in Italy and selling it in Spain or Portugal?
 

Hello. I'm a non-EU resident and I'd like to know if it's possible to buy a used motorcycle in Italy, travel with it so Spain or Portugal and sell it there.
And if so, how does the whole process work bureaucratically. I intent on traveling for about a month and the point is to save some money rather then spend 4000 EU for a rental.

buy and sell in a different EU countrys isn't a problem, you need therefore the COC papers of the bike and if it's older than 6 months there is no problem with taxes.

From what I hear about Italy in particular, it can be very difficult for a foreigner to buy a motorcycle privately for export there. They have a strong business scene for moto export in general, but it's built around local aggregators who ship truckfuls of prepared bikes to dealers in other countries. For a private citizen, dealing directly with the Italian bureaucracy can be a nightmare. And this was me doing research as an EU citizen.

Other EU countries can be much simpler.

Totally agree, Italy is not simple at all for this kind of thing. A prospective buyer in Spain would probably have to face the same amount of red tape if he wanted to re-register the bike in his country and this will affect the selling price accordingly. There is also the fact that the Italian DVLA equivalent will demand to see an officially translated sales contract before they will De-register the bike in Italy, without which it will still be liable to pay road tax every year.

Robin427's system appears to be a workaround, with which the bike would be registered in Germany on temporary export plates, this seems to be the kind of solution that involves throwing loads of money around which is fine if you can afford it. Best solution in this case might to just forget about Italy, head to Germany, buy a bike there and get export plates yourself.

burocracy in italy is just not working !!like politics in general.
that is why I wrote u in first place,Antix..I am an italian citizen resident in a foreign country and cannot buy a bike there now.in my own country!

One big problem in EU is that most countries require you to have an adress/residence to be able to insure and register a vehicle. Sweden is an exception as they will issue a temporary personal number (something like that). Andorra is another option with their turist plates.

Buying in One and smelling in a different country would create all kinds of headaches [emoji15]
