Camping near Barcelona?
Hi there,
I'd like to know or there're cheap campsites near Barcelona. As i'm heading there soon and have to wait a bit for my motorbike to arrive on the ship. The only campsites i could find till now are fanct ones on the coast. But i don't need all that. Just some basic campsite will do it for me. Anyone who could help me with that? Cheers, Bossit |
The campgrounds listed in guidebooks, including the "Tres Estrellas", were near the airport south of Barcelona. They are all closed and being torn out for an airport expansion.
Last spring we ended up staying in a nice campground just west of Sitges on highway C-246. Take the main road thru downtown Sitges and cross the overpass over the tracks and there are two of them right there. We stayed at El Garrofer. The bus to downtown Barcelona stopped at the gate to the campground and was cheaper than driving when one added the tolls (to Barcelona and again on the way back) for the highway tunnel to whatever would be paid for parking. One could take the winding road along the coast and bypass the tunnel on the main highway but one would still probably have to pay for secure parking. There is also a m/c oriented cafe called "El Tros" in Sitges. It was closed the day we went to it, so this recommendation is from another biker not us. Sitges is a nice beach town and we enjoyed walking through it too. |
"Camping El Masnou" is just to the North East of Barcelona in the suburb of El Masnou. It's pretty much right on the beach (just a road in between) and has its own pool and bar. Nice relaxed atmosphere there.
Hmm, pic doesn't seem to be showing up. Anyway, it's Lat:41°28'32.01"N Long: 2°18'12.45"E |
Thanks Bobkat
Hi Bobkat,
Thank you for helping out. I look into it when i'll arrive at the airport. Can you remember how much you paid for that campsite? And i can get there with the bus from the airport you said,no? Thanks, Cheers, Bossit |
Sorry I don't remember the campsite cost. We had just a tent and the bike and we didn't feel it was unreasonable for people on a budget. The showers were free. There is a bar, restaurant, laundromat and a small grocery store in the campground too and you can walk to the beach.
I reread your initial posting and see that you're flying in. The bus we mentioned takes the main highway C-32 which is a limited access highway. The main bustop on the Barcelona end was at the Plaça de Cataluna, which is at the north end of La Rambla. The highway just in front of the airport is the C-31 and it is the old highway. The C-31 meets the C-32 in Castelldefels about 5 Km to the west. The total distance to the campground from the airport is about 20 Km. The distance from the center of Sitges to the campground is a little less than 1 Km. I would inquire at the airport about buses to Sitges, it is a resort town (popular with the gay community according to the travel books) and there is probably something that goes down the coast from the airport to both Castelldefels and Sitges. If you email me at whitedragon *at* bobkatsjaunt *dot* com I'll send you back a map with all the above on it. |
