Central Pyrenees

Hey guys,

Hoping to head down to the Central Pyrenees in June. I'm going mainly for a bit of mountaineering but I'd like to do a couple of untarmaced trails while I'm there.
Can any one recommend either specific trails or good areas to look at?

Many thanks,

Matt

off topic???

Anything on the Vignemale would be dead good, superb summit with Spain on one side and France on the other, good hut at the bottom of the glacier (we left the hut at 4 am and got back to the car at midnight, which was gruelling). It's a bit loose so try and get on the crag early to avoid shit getting knocked on you. There are also a few interesting bolted granite crags in the area.

I only had a mountain bike when I was there and can remember some dead good tracks that we were on that had evidence of vehicle use, but no idea where they are!!

Hi Henry,

I posted on the pannier thread asking you whether you still had the Elefant?

Thanks for the pyrenees tips, I'll check 'em out.

Matt

ahhh, horrible painful memories coming back...

Hi Matt

The Elefant got fully rebuilt, front end, engine, tyres, mudguard etc.... then some chavs tried to knick it and failed, so they torched it in a park at the bottom of my street. Absolutely gutted! So gutted in fact that I went and bought another Elefant and am determined to get it as good as my old one. Am stripping and repainting th erear subframe tonight!

How's the XT? I am looking at a couple of 650 singles to go across the Sahara next year

You going to lumb Farm?

Matt Cartney 26 Apr 2007 16:52

Oh man that sucks! Good luck with the new one.

My XT is running well, despite being horribly neglected over the winter. It's looking really tatty though so I've ordered new plastic side panels for it. Also going to start turning it into a proper off-roader as I get the money together. Looking at bash plates just now, and thinking about getting alloy rims built onto the current hubs. Not sure what for as it'll be a few years before I can afford to use it anywhere interesting!

Where in the Sahara are you headed?

Matt

PS- not sure about lumb farm yet, might do. What about you?

basically taking the PD route (ish) to Mauritania then Mali, Niger Algeria and Tunisia, sort of big horseshoe affair.

You should come and have a crack at the Cambrian rally with me in October - supposed to be quite good for the bigger bikes and a set of TKC 80's will apparently work well tyre wise.

am all signed up for LF

Excellent, sounds like a good trip. :)

What's the Cambrian Rally? Have found a few tantalising bits on google but nothing which really explains what it is. Do you have a link?

Matt

Hi Matt,
I've to the Pryenees in two days for almost two weeks. A group of us will be based in Sort and plan to do mostly off-roading. I'll report back at the end with some photos and trails.
Cheers,
