Edinburgh in a couple of weeks...
Hello all,
I'm planning a short trip up to Scotland in a week or so and spending a week/ 10 days. I want to spend most of my time out of cities and in the country but i don't want to miss Edinburgh, I plan to spend at least 1 day if not a couple, could anyone recommend somewhere to stay, campsite/ cheap hostel etc. I've heard that august is very busy due to holiday/ festival season. Any ideas and advice would be great. Also if any one has any thing that they think I shouldn't miss let me no. Thanks for reading. |
I'd take a look at South Queensferry, Edinburgh is only 10-15 minutes by train (the station is just behind the Forth bridge).
last time i was there by motorcycle i was based in Dunblane. it's about 70 km north-west of E. it was less expensive compared to E. and the city was easily reachable by the M9, plus you can reach other locations like stirling, bannockburn, trossachs, loch lomond, linlithgow, callander, the fife... |
Thank you for the fast reply, I will check South Queensferry. Have been thinking of staying just out of town, leaving bike and gear there and use public transport to get into the city.
Cheers. |
Should not miss would be
A82 Tyndrum thru Glencoe - Fort William and another good one is A890 A896 onto the Bealach na Ba to Applecross then you wind your way round the coast to Gairloch. We live on the other coast just south of Aberdeen where you might like to visit just to get away from the midgies that populate the West Coast This link Scottish Independent Hostels (SIH) - Youth Hostel, Backpackers & Bunkhouse Accommodation in Scotland UK might help with cheapish accommodation. If you make it to our bit on the east coast give us a shout, its good to meet fellow travellers. |

Near Gairloch there's a youth hostel placed in a very dramatic scenery, it's a basic hostel, but worth it. |
North Of Edinburgh it's pretty much pick any road and it will be fantastic.
