Europe motorcycle rally schedules
I'm an American in Europe for the summer of 2009. I'm looking to attend a number of motorcycle events this summer, of what we in the states call rallies - where bikers meet up on the weekends to ride and hang out, where hopefully there's arranged camping.
So how do I find out about these? I'm guessing most countries and/or bike brands/types have a web portal for motorcycles which have calendar listings. However, and this is the problem, you all have different languages, spellings, words etc. then what I am used to. I can't easily use web search to locate these, just too confusing, and so far not very productive. I'm looking for any and all links to countries from Portugal through Europe to the Ukraine, up to Norway (east to west, north to south - anywhere in Europe where I don't have to deal with visas, so Russia is probably out). Any links you could provide me to get started would be greatly appreciated. I'll deal with trying to figure out what the pages say after I get to the websites - that's the easy part, I think. This way, I'll see Europe on the cheap (I hope), and since I presently lack purpose and a direction, this will help add direction to my travels - the lure of cheap beer driving me onward. |
Can't think of any specific websites for the UK, but I know the bike mags often list various events, will have a look through tonight.
One option (depending on if it's your thing or not) could be to take in a Moto GP or WSB round, these all have organised camping. Home | The Official MotoGP Website WORLDSBK.COM | HOME There is also the Bulldog Bash in the UK The Bulldog Bash Motorcycle Show & Festival*-*Bulldog Bash |
In Norway there are two rallies which focus on offroad. Both focus on driving are pretty simple.
Bukkerittet (Offroad Touring Club): Bukkerittet / Home - Offroad Touring Club Some pictures from last year’s event: Bukkerittet2008 / Rune EmblemsvÃ¥g / Gallery / Home - Offroad Touring Club and Bukkerittet 2008 / Dörthe Jäschke / Gallery / Home - Offroad Touring Club GS meeting (not an official BMW-rally) No food, no beer (bring your own) but toilets and hot shower are available: gsmeeting.com There is a list of various rallies here: NMCU - hurtigliste norske treff I have never visited them, Troll-rally is famous. |
In Denmark there are many rallies (motorcykel træf), there is not much riding, mostly hanging out. .
On this page there are rallies (motorcykel træf) open house (åben hus) both at dealers or motorcycle clubs. DANSKE KLUBBER , use this link KRAK har svaret på adressen. to find the addresses MC Tour - Din online guide til sommerens motorcykeltræf In many places there are special places Faste Mødepladser - Google Maps where people just show up at on a fixed weekday or day in the month, just to kick tyres for a few hours Use this Text and Web - Google Translate for translations or just ask me. here's a 2 day event in my hometown, with MC exhibition, contests, music, beer, armwrestling, burnouts, striptease, camping, biker sermon etc. :::Fyns MC Festival::: |
EU rallys

Most of the Rallies you'd be looking at in Europe are a lot smaller than the ones in the USA. In Europe 1000 people is big, normally it's 200-300, but at least you stand a chance of meeting people. The European Rallies tend to have a focal point like a bar or a marquee (where it's compulsory to have a drink, even if it's soda) and you have to pay to get in, you don't just arrive in the town (XXXX Bike Week style) you have to pay and sign in to enter. The list that my club runs can be found at Mayflower MCC Home, click on Rally Dates and go from there. If you want any further details of specific good ones to get to (and there are a lot every weekend) send me an e-mail.

Thanks for the replies - keep 'em coming. This isn't going to be easy. The internet here in Dubrovnik, Hrvatsa (Croatia) is pretty expensive, so I'll have to find some cheaper connections to figure these out.

I've always enjoyed Motorsport events here in Europe - especially the 24hr Endurance racing (Le Mans for the cars and Spa in Belgium for the bikes are tops!). You pay entrance but always good value, i find, with lasting memories. Sure, the Le Mans car race is packed out with middle-class Brits but there's always a decent smattering of bikers enjoying the weekend. Spa is something else, with it being in the Ardennes Forest and on private land it allows loads of drunken tomfoolery, with the Police really relaxed. Fantastic.

If you've come all the way from America to Europe, there are three rallies which you really shouldn't miss. There's one in Germany in a few weeks, one in England in June and one in Spain in September. They will be full of travelling type bikers. For information about them go to http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/meetings/ :) :) ;)
OK on a slightly more serious note, try www.ridesandrallies.co.uk - May - June 2009 for rallies and events in UK during the summer months. Jim |
The faro rally in faro portugal the third weekend in july i think. The bull run in pamplona the 7th of july onwards not really a bike rally but a good piss up.

I'm not coming here to do rallies, its just that I'm here, and I thought maybe I should do a few while I'm here. I will be at the TT event, the HU meet in Germany. Now, the 25.5.-30.5. First French Adventure Riders Meeting that Airhead mentioned looks interesting (where? how do I find out more?). I can see it now - smelly American gets to gether with the French. Should be interesting. |
Here's a few rallies that I've been to and can recomend.
England - MAG Farmyard Party, Helmsley, Yorkshire. France - Celtic Brotherhood's Celtic Rally, Brittany. Slovakia - CMC Indians' Tanec Slnka (Sun Dance), Stara Tura. Austria - European Bike Week, Faaker See. Enjoy. |
The largest in Europe Harley-Davidson | European Bike Week
tens of thousands people & bikes there |

for registration you should read the ADV-list at ADVrider - Powered by vBulletin |
Thanks to everyone who's submitted suggestions and links. I'm been on the road a few days (Touratech Travel meet) - back to Munich now for a few more days of 'gear renewal', then next week, I'll wander over to the HU meeting. So when I have computer time, I'll figure out a summer schedule and post it here.

Hello
Just thought I would resuscitate a old post since I had spent quite some time searching for such a website page that listed a lot motorcycle rallies in Europe. The person or people who run this website must have spent quite some time compiling, and locals probably can see some rallies missing from the list. Careful translation might be required of some languages or words as to not plan your trip around Europe with expectations that you find MC rallies are later not as you expected. Events. Some or a lot of the rallies listed can be quite small , local motorcycle clubs main events and friends attending mostly. The website page is LPMCC.net http://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=AwrP4...6oyzljT1wtRrE8- www.Lpmcc.net/rallies/rally_index.htm hope that helps those that like to met people that ride motorcycle from other country's and have more than a couple of drinks. |
Some of those rally names bring on a shudder of recognition and past expeditions - the two Elephants, the Dragon and a few others in particular. Every time I get back from a winter rally I say never again, and I never do until the next winter when I get bored. So, the 2019 Alt Elephant, I definitely won't be going, unless I have nothing else on that weekend. Maybe.
There's quite few I saw on the listings that are near me but I didn't know existed. The Hivernale du Vercors for example. That place is bleak in the middle of summer so January must be well up the miserable scale. I was down there - by bike - last January and had more snow than the height of the bike fall in two days. You need a pretty good tent and a big shovel to get through that without the tent collapsing. |
