Füssen to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (roughly)
Hi Hubbers
I'm new here so hope I'm posting in the right place Part of a little European road trip next month will take me heading east from Lake Constance (southern Germany/Switzerland/Austria) to Zell am See and then south in order to ride the Grossglockner pass. Close scrutiny of Google maps shows a little road that runs from the eastern end of the Plansee (lake) to Garmisch, with what appears to be a small footbridge or maybe a ford where it traverses the German/Austrian border - I wondered if anyone knows if this route is passable or has any knowledge of this area? Plansee to Garmisch - Google Maps Its probably not much more than a track .... but maybe ok on a road bike, although I must admit I did foolishly ride this bike across the Rekkam plateau in Morocco year before last (and fell off a lot!) but if its a just a stream or little river .... Thanks Brian |
Hi Brian,
the road is all tarmac and a very good one, I love to do that road but be aware that it get's very crowded on weekends or bank holidays. Cheers, Joe |
Sorry, I've just taken a better look at your route, from Plansee you'll have to go over Linderhof to Oberau. The direkt connection is closed to vehicles.

Thanks Joe - I suspected that might be the case. I'll probably scoot up there and have a look anyway - no harm in trying!

well I am looking for adventure! |
well I went to Plansee and had a quick look at it a few days ago.... it is gated and is just a gravel track and probably only for bicycles and walkers... so rather than outrage the many tourists there, I sensibly took the tarmac to Oberammergau and then down to Garmsch-Partenkirchen - a brilliant ride even in the rain!!
