Greece to Italy Ferries?
I'm looking to travel between these countries next summer (only one way, as above). Does anyone have any recommendations on companies / specific routes? I was currently considering Igoumenitsa to Bari, but I'm open to other suggestions. I will be coming from Athens and heading to Rome.
Thanks in advance. |
you have 3 options of companies:
https://www.minoan.gr/en/italy https://www.anek.gr/en/routes/ https://www.superfast.com/adriatiki/en/ given in order of preference or recommendation. Minoan has the best ships for the routes : Greece to Ancona or to Venice. No route to Bari. The other 2 companies offer routes to Bari but the vessels for that particular route are inferior in quality, cleanliness and older. |
Thanks, I'll check these out.

As Road spirit said..Those 3 are the best...There is an option through Albania https://www.directferries.com/ferrie...a_to_italy.htm ...

I would recommend Minoan on the Ancona to Igoumenitsa route. Very comfortable and reasonably priced.

If your planned route is 'Athens to Rome', as you indicated in your first post, I suggest that you investigate the ferry from Durrës, Albania to Bari, Italy.
The ride up the Adriatic coast from Igoumenitsa, Greece (where most of the Greek ferries to Italy depart from) to Durrës is spectacular, one of the world's great rides, and Albania is a delightful country to tour in, with prices for hotels and food that are about one-third of what you would pay in Greece. It's simple, cheap, and easy to get insurance coverage for Albania at a border crossing, and you don't need a visa. The ferry between Durrës and Bari is operated by Adria Ferries and the trip takes 8 hours. I've traveled with Adria Ferries before, and while they are not exactly Cunard, they're not bad either... pretty much average, as ferry companies go. The problem with the more popular routes such as Igoumenitsa to Ancona, etc. is that they will take you too far north in Italy, you will then have to ride south to get to Rome. Not to mention that there are cabin costs associated with long ferry trips (Igou to Ancona is about 16 hours) that you can avoid with the shorter Durrës to Bari ferry. Michael |
Thanks for the replies. I’ve decided to go from Patras to Bari overnight. :D
