Had a Fall, Need to Replace Broken Pelican Case Pannier in Greece
Hi guys,
A rather long shot, but yesterday I had my first big spill on my RTW trip which caused me to lose my left side pannier (a Pelican 1550 Case). Anyway, I'm in Greece for the next week or so and was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere I could purchase another case either in Greece or in Istanbul? I figure there might be a retailer in Athens as that is obviously the biggest city. Otherwise any other alternative recommendation which is similar in volume (35 liters) would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. -Remy Oh, and I'm completely okay after the fall except for a small bruised hip and ego. Cheers. |
Hey Remy,
Glad to hear that you are unhurt. If you want to check around to local shops, start with the larger photography supply shops, they will be familiar with waterproof cases for their camera gear. They may not have the 1550's though or only be able to special order. There may even be a Pelican distributor in Greece, the photo shops may be able to lead you them if it exists. If you can't find any, I would order one online and have shipped, if it looks like it will take too long to get to Greece and you want to move along, pick your next big city, Istanbul? They are cheap online, the shipping will likely not be though. |
Thanks MountainMan, by sheer luck I found a store in Athens that has a few in stock so I should be okay. Between the exchange rate and specialty of item I'm going to be paying over 3 times what I paid for the case back in Los Angeles, but ce'st la vie. Now I just have to find a way to bend my brackets back an inch to their original shape and angle to reattach the new case. Too bad a crowbar is too heavy to carry on a bike.
Thanks again, Remy |
Wow. Must've been quite an impact to break a pelican case - those things are tough! Glad you're OK.
