how to get my motor on a train from russia to mongolia

Hello!

Has anyone got experience with getting there motorcycle on a train in Russia and get it down to Mongolia with yourself as a passenger on that train?

I read about it on a few older forums but there is no mentioning of details about how and where.

I want to travel to Mongolia in 2018. Normally I would be driving the distance but due to a short break I'd rather get slightly faster to my destination.

Moscow to Ulaan-Bator train takes over 4 days. It won't be meaningfully faster.

From what I've seen on Russian forums, you show up and talk to the cargo handlers.

I looked at a train option to get a damaged vehicle back from Ulan Ude (near Mongolia) to Europe in 2015. Very serious hassle, and nobody local could figure out how to do it. I finally arranged a car transporter to get it to Vladivostok (4000km east) and shipped it out to Rotterdam from Vladivostok. Very easy. Used Yuri Melnikov's LINKS company.

Even if you can arrange a train, it will not be faster than simply driving there. You will need several days for customs clearance each at departure and destination. That alone kills any possible speed advantage of the train.
The alternative is to ship to Vladivostok and to drive west from there. Only 4000km to Mongolia.

Friends of mine drove from Cologne, Germany to the Mongolian border in 4 days in 4x4s. Helldrive but they did it. Drove 1800km per day, switching drivers every 6 hours.

Oh, forgot to mention it. I met two Swiss people in the middle of the Gobi desert who had rented their motorcycles in Ulan Bataar. They looked like fairly decent and useable bikes. I'm a Land Rover man myself so I can't fully judge, but I do remember the babe riding one of the bikes was a real stunning looker.

Hi Rick, you can't do this. Cargo trains with passenger wagoons were cancelled several years ago. So you can ship bike by one train and ride another train but thays works only inside the country!!

You cant cross border in this way, because you must be at the border with the bike, TIP papers and docs for bike. nobody will let it out of country.

You can get out of russia only registered in Russia bike without problems
