Insurance and Green Card, again...

I've seen how 3rd party insurance and a green card form have skyrocketed in Europe recently. Followed thread on ADVrider and here.
I followed up on a post on adv by rtwdoug, who has moto hostel in Bulgaria, www.motosapiens.org - where he says he paid something like 70 Euro for 6 months, or a years insurance there I forgot which.
I thought I'd follow up and see if any insurors in Bulgaria would be willing to issue insurace, online, and provide green card. I heard back from 7 major insurors, all declined, but one insuror indicated they would if applied in person.
I'm wondering if anyone has been on any track like this, or if someone in Europe, esp. Bulgaria, might be willing to knock on a door and try to convince an insuror to handle us - so we don't get raped anymore.
I mean 170 Euro a month ??? Come on, I pay $12 us a month for liabilty and comp here in New Mexico..........

I like your idea and applaud your determination after all it will take a lot of leg work to get other insurers to see the benefit/interest in this market. But it's in the common interest and worth pursuing.

The only way it would work is if the insurer would arrange online payment and it could be done over the internet. Trouble is finding an insurance company that will underwrite foreign motorcycles which unfortunately, are considered high risk.

your idea

Turbo,
I'm thinking that if we (the community) can't find someone in Europe to try and sort this, that choosing a couple of insurors and bombarding them with requests until they submit, might be an alternative.
If ya' got any ideas, throw them out.
I'm hoping to get over there in a few months, also hoping that something will come of the insurance idea
Cheers

if I remember right, its like 40 or 50 usd a month from DZI (but the rates fluctuate), thats the only one that I found that will do it. But, you have to go to their office, either in sofia, or on the border. And, your bike has to be in BG at the time (but I have lied about this, as they dont have to 'see' it) I've tried to get them to sell green cards via the internet, but as of now, no luck. I'm sure theres an enterprising agent SOMEWHERE that would be willing to do this, but I havent found them. You need someone who works on commission, as salaried workers in BG will only do the bare minimum. most just dont care. They get paid regardless.
My girlfriend Poly used to be an insurance agent there, I will ask her about seeing if the can get hired at DZI part time, & do internet sales.
there is definatly a need for green cards at a decent price. I used alliance? out of luxembourg in the past, but then they raised the rates 500%, and would not tell me why.

Hi Doug thanks for kickin in

i was hoping you'd pick up on the thread - you know your original post was it on ADV got me started on this idea.
Seems like someone in one of the lower priced countries like Bulgaria or maybe Slovakia could find a way to set this up, I'd sure be willing to pay a "fee" for the service.
For our "foreign" friends I just posted a link to an insuror here in the states who will cover foreign bikes or foreignors buying bikes here...fair rates at the one year plan, the short term is too expensive
here's the linky:

Sounds like we have a potential target --> DZI ??!!

I have insurance through KNMV in The Netherlands and as far as I can figure out the only place where I don't have coverage is in Serbia. I currently don't know who the insurance company is, but it used to (if not still) be London Insurance.

I'll see if I can find the name and post it (I'm currently on the road and will not be home until late August, so it might take some time).

EU members get cheap green card

but the rest of us pay 10X as much.....

thought rampant capitalism was limited to the good 'ol USA

let's keep workin' on this

btw i tried that English link for DZI - no email addy given for any agents...I used DZI in a general search once and came up with some agents in Bulgaria - a couple whom I sent emails to - but they declined to help
