Italy to Croatia
I am planning a 2up trip with the wife around Europe Aug /Sept? 2013 which includes a visit to Rome ( never been). We then want to go over to Croatia on the ferry. Does anyone know the cheapest place to cross from Italy and where to in Croatia. Not worried where it goes to in Croatia, but no further North than say Zadar leaving a reasonable coastline to travel up. I guess day and time of day may have some cost implications?

Pescara to Split is one option, leaves close to Rome. But if you have the time you really should head further down the coast to Bari and then over to Dubrovnik. It's a beautiful town to visit on the other side and the ride up the coast is really quite nice. It adds some miles, but your wife will be very pleased that you insisted on taking her to Dubrovnik.

I done Dubrovnik to Bari in Italy,I think it was about 65 euros one way..

If you have time you should really consider navy route Bari-Dubrovnik or even Bari-Bar (Montenegro). When heading north try to visit Plitvice lakes(Cro) and Soča valley or Bohinj and Bled lakes (Slo) if you go to Austria. |
This is the Croatian shipping company: Jadrolinija.
Here you can find prices and shipping routes. bye |
Hello, the best option if you have time I think is to go down to Salerno, do the Amalfian then cross to Bari and ship to Bar (Montenegro). There you can do the Bay of Kotor (UNESCO World Heritage) and the whole Jadranska Magistrale from Dubrovnik up to Rijeka by going north.
Jadrolina is not worth the price. ewi |

some things to consider I think. Always difficult to decide on what to leave out of a trip, never very hard to put things in :confused1:

Beware on windy days though
Hi,
I got busted by the coppers on the coastal road from Zadar to Rijeka last November. The road was closed for bikes due to the extreme wind (explained to me later by the officer). I knew something was up, there was a road sign with a flashing red light but as the sign was in Croatian, not that clear and my alternative was the highway higher in the mountains. So I gave it a shot.....doh Cost me 500 Kuna (€67) and some slipping and sliding in a snowstorm on the highway later on. Anyway, it is a beautiful country but make sure you are not on your bike there in snowstorms and on windy days. Cheers Wolsly Wandering Wolsly | 100 days on a motorcycle |

I booked a ticket from Livorno to Split with Blueline ferries for mid April, and it was 68 €, one person and the bike...

Don't book, just go to bari and cross to were you want we did it last August in a land rover for three with a room overnight it was about E100. There are loads of services so just choose what you want. Croatia, Montenegro, Albania or Greece..
