Mature Canadian motorcycle couple seeking info on budget accommodation in Scotland

Hello! We are excited about planning for our trip, Sept. 2017. A perfect day for us would be 350 km on Scotland's beautiful rugged roadways on our 2 KLR 650's, and meeting, sharing travel stories with other like-minded folks. Our trips to Inuvik on the Dempster and through the vast Boreal forest interior of the Trans Labrador Highway provided us with lots of fun, a few breakdowns, fellow bikers & a thirst for more! Look forward to hearing from you! Cheers!

Have you tried Couchsurfing.org ? not just for the youngens. Me and my wife have couchsurfed all around the world and met some awesome people.

I believe Scotland allows wildcamping? Also, have a look on booking.com.

Hi there, I've been in Scotland in summer 2014: great trip!

not easy to find cheap accomodations, in the highlands there are not so many structures too

some small family owned B&B are not in booking.com or similar, you can knock at the door or another option is using google maps as search tool (select the part of the map you're intrested in, write bed & breakfast in the search window) you can have phone numbers and try to call for checking prices and availability
some of them also have basic homemade websites

cheapest solutions are:
- mobil homes
- family owned B&B
- small hotels called "inn", usually with a pub downstairs

really hard to find cheap solution in the islands: Islay for example was really crazy priced, but wonderful

regarding tent... up to you
consider also that one shower per day is quite usual up there and temperatures are not so warm even in summer

Have a look at the Scottish Youth Hostel Association (you don't need to be young).

I especially loved the ones in Tongue (north coast) and Glen Prosen (east) - both fab to get to and fab to be in. You can book on line and prices are good.
