must sees in Fjord Norway (south)
 

Hey guys,
after my trip trough South America I would like similar as rocker in the topic before me to visit Norway next year (in August). However, I got some info what to see, but I am wondering, if anyone has special ideas for a 2 weeks trip coming from Danemark and by ferry to Bergen up to Kristiansund and back to Oslo.

Does anyone know nice Hostels, camping areas, pleasant lakes to camp and nice regions? I know Gerianger fjord and similar or Alesund waterfalls. But does anyone have different news?
For example is it possible to cross on the eastern side next to the brees national park in direction north up to Grotli without having to take the well known tourist road? There are little roads on the map, but does anyone know if it is possible to pass them in summer time with a Honda Varadero 1000(2 Persons on the bike). I am used to quite heavy road conditions ( similar to bolivian style!).

Norway is awesome.
I just came back from the South. Didn't see as much as I would have liked due to bike problems but what I saw was great. I would agree Geiranger is a real worthwhile trip. The road out to Alesund (60) is awe inspiring. The 655 i took on the way back to Geiranger from Alesund is a great wee road. Obviously the Trollstigvien road is amazing too.
There are incredible amounts of off roading to be done in Norway and loads of high quality unsealed stuff by the looks of it. The Norwegian off roading club below was reccomended to me on this site and the guys were very helpful providing me with road books for the off roading around Otta which I am reliably informed is great although I never made it there myself http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif

thanks for those infos. I will contact that club you mentioned. Do you know some cheaper ferries from denmark to Normway? They are realy expensive from denmark up to Norway and back.

I'm not sure about the ferries from Denmark as I got the ferry from the UK to Kristiansand. However, I got the ferry from Denmark to Stockholm once. it was years ago but i don't remember it being too expensive. Getting that and riding over may be an option.

We got a fast ferry (3 hours) from Hirtshals to Kristiansand last month. I seem to remember it cost 100 quid one way for one bike and two passengers. The most amazing place I've ever been... Picked up a camping guide from the ferry office which was invaluable for the rest of our trip. I've got GPS coords for all the campsites we stayed at, I'll see if I can find them.

If you're planning on going to Prekestolen, travel light. We carted our bike gear the two hours up and back down again thinking it was only going to be a 20 minute walk. We weren't the only ones either, some people even had their helmets with them.

I'm going by memory as to what these places were like but the locations are straight out of the GPS and should be accurate to within 20 feet or so.

Really lovely campsite near to Kristiansand, our favorite of our whole trip:

Campsite in the middle of Stavanger. Big but surprisingly pleasant:

Little campsite but by the fjord and with a view of the glacier up the valley behind you:

Nice small tiered campsite overlooking a pretty harbour:

Large but really nice campsite right by the fjord. We used this as a base to get up onto the mountains towards Lom:

I don't know if these other two will be any good to you but this is one of the campsites in Lillehammer. It was huge and heaving with caravans but they've got a secluded tent area right at the end, don't stop at the first one you come to:

And this is a campsite right near the center of Oslo. It's right on top of a hill and overlooks the whole town though torrential rain prevented us seeing even as far as the edge of the campsite while we were there. Despite it's location it's a nice, but large, campsite.

Hope these are of use to someone. We'll be going back to Norway to go further north but we spent the best part of two weeks just doing the small area these campsites cover and it was stunning.

thank you very much. I will take those GPS-data with me, since I am used to travel with GPS since my trip in South america.
Mainly the places between Bergen and Kristiansund and on the way back from there to Oslo are interessting for me. That means that all caming areas and POI`s are very welcome.
Thank you all very much. As it seems there are more people traveling in the whole world, than just in front of the own door, not realising that it is even as nice as on the other continents. Well if anyone ever has questions about Switzerland, let me know.
Does anyone know that Atlantic-road from Molde to Kristiansund? Is it easy to find? I really like to ride it (I saw some awesome pictures of it.
