Non touristy pelopponese?

Hi all, I'm currently in pelopponese in thé napflio area, so far thé région is fantastic but too touristy, does anyone have any expériences of more 'organic' areas of pelopponese?

Not sure what you mean by "organic", but if you mean more nature as opposed to cities, perhaps you can venture into the Arcadian Mountains in central Peloponnese.

We rode to a nice waterfall in Neda, good hiking there. It's about a couple of hours ride from Napflio. You can check out the scenery here to see if it's something you're interested in:

Might be a bit too early in the season to go swimming though.

This time of the year should be quiet. Peloponesse is a hidden gem and definitely less saturated compared to the islands.

Typically, most big cities in the peninsula like Nafplio, they first get Greek visitors and then foreigners.

Kalavryta, Olympia, Pylos, Monenvasia, Loutraki-Korinthos, Epidavros are the most popular and most visited places (for a reason).

I cannot know how hectic was Nafplio this time of the year but if you consider Naflpio touristic, then stay in the mountains (there are some beautiful drives) or try the west coast from Methoni up to Patra.

Dimitsana is a little beautiful village that could be definitely considered as touristic because lots of people have holiday houses there. But its a great place to visit if you are in Peloponesse.

Karytaina is also a MUST see typical Greek village.

Dont miss the beaches, the archeological sites, the good wine and good meat. The peninsula is re-known for all of these plus their olive oil and Kalamata olives!!!!

If you have time also, check Elafonisos and Voidokoilia beach.

I was in late May in the peloponnese and I was surprised not to see many tourists in campsites, hotels and small roads. I even had a hotel for myself, however, in a fabulous location in Marmari in the central tip of the south (and with a good price).
Same thing in Olympia I was able (easy) to take pictures without tourists on it ;)

Ciao,

Awesome! The Peloponnese is one of the best regions in Greece. But you're right places like Olympia, Nafplion, and Mycenae are overly touristy. You are actually by some of the best nontouristy islands. You can head west to Kafelonia or south to Elafonisos. The whole southern part of the Peloponnese is less touristy.

Stephen from A Backpackers Tale has a great guide covering nontouristy areas when traveling Greece. https://abackpackerstale.com/backpacking-greece

The lonely plant also has a great article that helped me plan my trip!

Hope that helps and have a blast! Eat some hummus for me. I miss Greece :(
