parcel to Turkey / customs
Has anybody ever sent a parcel with spare parts to Turkey?
Some years ago the German automobil club told us, that parcels have to be picked up at the customs main office in Ankara. They said it would be impossible to sent them straight to any other city. Is that true? In fact we would like to get a parcel to some city in the east, e.g. Dogubayazit or Van. Has anybody experience with this? Greetings from Pakistan Panny |
No, it is not true.
Any package sent to any address in any city should picked up from post office or customs related to what's in it... Hope this helps... |

thanks for the quick reply. Does that mean there are customs office in any (bigger) cities? Not that the "related customs office" for the Van post office is in Ankara for example? Cheers Panny |
A package that is valued too much can get very delayed in Turkey.

please give me a rough indication what "valued to much" might be. Thanks Panny |

How much the package will have a value? If it is more than 80 $ you need to pay custom taxe. I am sure it is. No problem even it is 500-800 euro. Be ready to pay the taxe (let's say 200 euro), you clear the item and receive it... No hassle... Be sure they will help you more when you are a foreigner. Try to have somebody near you who helps you to understand each other. Not sure if they have somebody who will understand you well in PTT but may be exist in customs. I am not sure if you will need to go to customs ofifice. |
Hi Panny,
I have done this a couple of years ago. The German Automobil Club "ADAC" send me spare-parts to Ankara Airport. The german mechanics (garage) gave the spare parts to ADAC office at Munich airport. One day later it arrived on Ankara aiport. (send with a passenger plane, Lufthansa) It only takes 1 day from Munich Airport in Ankara. Great !!! But to get the package out of the customs takes the whole day. I startet at 8.00 clock in the morning at Ankara Airport and finished at 17.30 Uhr. The turkish people were nice, but many, many papers. My problem was: My parcel was to expensive and I had to pay tax for it. So i Was told to go back from airport to Ankara city again to make an official tax number. That takes a lot of time. (ramadan was at this time too, office closed ... and so on) But on the other hand, I was really lucky too. I found a private transporte for going to the tax office in the city of ankara. This turkish guy was great !!! He helped me with allt the tax-papers, drove me to a foto shop (to make a picture from me), takes me to a copy center .... and drove me direct back to the airport. Many thanks again! :thumbup1: If I can help you, let me know. Just send me an e-mail in german. |
