Picos de Europa
Morning all,
I have a 6 day window coming up in September and really fancy a whizz round the Picos de Europa, anybody have any good routes or advice regarding this area? I will be travelling solo and camping or using budget hotels. Thanks.... |
good campsite here Camping La Viorna en Potes in the middle of some cracking roads

As Dave suggests, base yourself in Potes (100 miles from the Santander ferry) and every road out of the town is amazing. You can't go wrong. :mchappy:

Not long back from there. That campsite is nice but its restaurant food isn't too great. From Potes you can do some nice hikes, like the Cares Gorge and several from the Funicular up the road. Lovely scenery and the roads are pretty quiet.

Another vote for Camping La Viorna - and I havent found the restaurant too bad - bit limited but IMHO perfectly fine as far as it goes - very clean loos and showers and friendly staff - good shop as well and Potes and Panes (or, to our pun-crazed mind, Pots and Pans) provided a great base for touring the area. Oviedo is also worth a look, Asturias is wonderful - each valley has its own ciders and cheeses and chorizos (those spicy sausages, pronounced kho-ree-tho) and Galicia is also excellent! All sorts of overlanders (4 wheel and 2 wheel) gather at Camping La Viorna and there are offroad routes leading into the local hills as well.
