provence?

Hello everyone.
I'm a new travel rider and planning with my wife a trip to Provence-France(round tour) from Greece via Italy.
I search a lot in internet but i want if it's possimble and if someone have the experience of this area to give me some advice for the trip ,like campings, places to stay as base to have a ride etc.Whatever might be useful to us.

Thanks

Also if you want any informations from greece i'll be gland to help you.

Hi Salcon and welcome to HUBB and to the Provence, which I call the bikers' paradise.

Get yourself some yellow Michelin maps (scale 1:200000) for the area you are going to. They show every road there is and the nice ones are marked with a green line. Available everywhere in France.

There are campgrounds everywhere, so you can't really go wrong. But, whatever you do: stay away from the Riviera (where I live). Also steer clear of N roads near big cities, they are busy and often have radars.

Also check out the bikers hostel in the "Bike friendly accommodation" forum. Recommended.

When are you planning on coming?

Hi Peter.
Thanks for your replay.
i'm planning to travel probably the last week of July(it depends from my job).
I think it's not the right season(high season).Too many visitors.
What period do you think is better?

Avoid Riviera???????? How will i tell that to my wife??????? http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ps:I can send you by e-mail my tour plan with towns, villages, ways, to tell me your opinion.

July is great in the mountains! As far as the coast is concerned - no.

Easy: just tell her it's like downtown Athens on a hot summers evening in rush hour! Stinking hot and the traffic hardly moves.

If she insists I suggest the following: pick a campground in a valley a little away from the coast, like in Cagnes, St. Paul, La Colle-sur-Loup. Take your bike or bus in the early morning to the nearest train station and take the train to either Nice or Cannes. The Cannes station is very close to La Croisette, the so-called glitzy part. Don't carry too much cash and watch your stuff.

You can post your itinerary right here, others might be interested...

The other thing is that different people have different likes and dislikes. Just because I prefer the back country for cruising, sightseeing and walking doesn't mean that you won't have a great time in the more 'developed' areas for beaches, shopping, museums or whatever. For me that would be close to hell.

airhead: Hallo Nachbar!

salcon: Looks like a good itinerary, especially if you intend to leave your tent pitched and explore the surrounding. I found in my travels that pitching and packing the tent daily doesn't make for a good trip.

Eze: a prime tourist spot. I'd recommend staying in a village or town further inland.

Grasse: the camping municipal is closed and it doesn't look like it's going to open this year. Stay further inland, lots of campings around Castellane. Don't miss Le Grand Canyon du Verdon. Do the road clockwise.
