Putting the bike on a train in Turkey from Denizli to Erzurum
Hey guys,
Got a bit of a query. I have been in Turkey almost 2 months and have of course had the most amazing time. Turkey really has to be bikers heaven. But i am running out of time and need to get to Georgia, Armenia and Iran. Is it possible to put the bike on a train from Denizli to Erzurum OR Ankara to Erzurum?? If this is not possible, is there a cheap way to transport my bike from Denizli to Erzurum as the petrol price and speed limits are both stupidly high and low respectively. Any help with this or any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much, Johnny |
You can get information about the Turkish rail system here.
Turkish State Railways Trains in Turkey You can get to Erzerum from Denizli via Ankara but the service is extremely slow. In the long-run it'll still be faster by road. |
Another option is to send the bike by a freight truck and go by bus. There are transportation companies in every major city including Denizli where you can find one going to, through or near Erzurum. The cost may be close to what you pay if you go by bike though.
Cheers from Izmir, Turkey. Send a PM if you happen to be around can |
Hey mate,
I don't think there is a direct train service from Denizli to Erzurum, but you can always take "Dogu Ekspresi" (Oriental Express) from Istanbul or Ankara. It goes all the way up to Kars if you are planning to cross to Georgia or Armenia. BTW, what kind of motorcycle are you riding? If it fits into the cargo space, you might consider to take an intercity bus from Denizli to Erzurum. They are pretty comfortable in Turkey. Ride Safe! (And thanks for your contribution to Turkish Economy by paying 400% tax on every liter of gas you burn + speeding tickets) Oguz |
Thanks for the info and quick replies guys. Sounds like i will just have to bite the bullet and do a couple of hard days riding. Not to worry though, the scenery is sure to be spectacular.
And Ogur...I am only paying 400%?!?! I thought it was more!! Most expensive fuel in the world, expensive food and meat, 70km/h limit for bikes, terrible road conditions...but even with all that Turkey has to be my favourite country. Now to the KaƧkar mountains! |

I also agree with you regarding road conditions. There are many construction and repair works ongoing, so be very very careful and never drive at night. But food? It MUST be cheap, that's weird... BTW, you might want to check famous Kemaliye Tasyolu on your way. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...n-turkey-49712 Cheers Oguz |
