riding through south-west Ukraine?

anybody rode there recently? no issues? no shooting? :)
Probably will be passing there to Romania soon.
Do I need extra documents there, like bike ownership card etc?
thanks

I rode in SW Ukraine last year for a week or so. Took my nc700, but wished I had taken my Tenere instead as the roads are bad. Worse than anything I have encountered in Europe or north africa. no special documents needed, V5 of course but that was all, bought insurance at the border (Korczowa Poland) Stayed a few days in Lviv, Beautiful city and seriously cheap, as is the whole country. Spent a few day travelling south to the Podiliski national park area which is nicer than the rest of SW Ukraine. no issues with police which I expected, and the people were friendly. I rode on to Moldova where I had no problems either and from there crossed to Romania

UK Foreign Office (FCO) only recommends to avoid a few areas.

Thanks for info, not sure though what is V5 document. Assume it's UK specific.
I carry usually only registration card and green card.

Yes, the V5 is the UK vehicle registration document.

Not sure if you still need this info but I just got back from Western Ukraine 4 weeks ago (late Sep 2017). Drove in from the Romanian border(the eastern one close to Moldova) and then took a quick drive to Kiev on absolutely horrible road. Drove back and worked my way through the Carpathians on surprisingly good road and exited in Poland.
The war is all the way in the East and all of Western and Central Ukraine is safe, nobody hassles you. I camped wild all the time and felt very safe. Food and fuel are readily available.
Lots of interesting things to see and nice nature.
Just enjoy.
Kiev is also a very beautiful and safe city. Have been there numerous times due to a work project and have never had any hassles.

I've been to Ukraine many times, as far east as Poltava and there are no problems due to the war. I had a knife put through my tyre sat in traffic in Kiev and as above the roads are shit to the point of being a bit lethal on a bike but it's a lovely country with lovely people, mostly.

Was there a "reason" for getting a knife through your tyre, I mean was it a road rage thing ?

Absolutely no idea. I was sat at the lights, when they changed I checked my drivers door mirror and saw a guy pulling his arm back into his car, as I set off I heard an intermittent 'fsh fsh fsh as the wheel went round and the tyre deflated. I figured it might be a set up so parked somewhere well populated to change the wheel and kept all my kit squared away but nothing happened. To this day it's a complete mystery.

That's an odd one that, could've been anything , I'd have suspected a set up thing though too. Maybe the guy was jealous of something, just a dick, who knows...not nice. I liked Ukraine, your right about some of the roads though, I rode in from Poland toward Lviv in the dark (I know) and the road was way bad, not in the normal sense bad, it was almost as if it had been booby trapped with iron rods sticking out etc. not just worn out like some in Romania or whatever, I guess because it was the concrete slab type it didn't help things. The route I took south from Lviv was mint though....I want to go again anyway :)
