Romania

Never been before, but looking forward to what looks like a beautiful place. On the AA travel abroad website (driving regs), it states that drivers need to carry a fire extinguisher; it doesn't say that this is just 4 wheeled vehicles. Surely this doesn't apply to bikes? It specifies NOT bikes for red triangles, but doesn't say this for the extinguisher?

Ideas? I don't want a fine!

I actually asked the cops at the border last year about fire extinguishers and first aid kits and they found the question hilarious...... ( So I believe the answer is no)
And anticipating your next question , you won't need a vignette either....

I never got hassled by the police anywhere when I travelled by motorcycle.

I strongly suggest you take the Transfăgărășan Highway (7C) from the South towards the North, Starting from "Pitești" or "Curtea de Argeș" ,, Have a break by Bâlea lake ,, then continue to the top. After the top you will have the chance to see the infamous view of the winding roads going downhill it is infamous for.

The road quality is good, depending on your bike,, I did it on a Ducati Monster R, it was sketchy to say the least. But any other "relaxed" bike should do fine.

There is also Transalpina Highway (67C), parallel to Transfăgărășan towards the West. I haven't been there personally, but they say its as beautiful as Transfăgărășan, which is hard to believe since that one is AMAZING.

best of luck in your travels and ride safe.

Never heard of it, and did spend some week in Romania. Never saw a police viechle either...

Transfagarasan will satisfy your eyes, Transalpina will fulfill your soul :).

Ive ridden the transalpina - great road - ranges from pristine tarmac to dirt road (and swaps between the two regularly).

I had no fire extinguisher or any of that stuff - and spent a day with the police getting my mates bike signed off after he had an accident and ended up in hospital so had good opportunity to check. You'll be fine.
