Rustic Campsites in Catalonia
Hey folks, any locals or expats around Catalonia know of any good rustic (as in 1-2 star campsites) around?
I don't mean the fancy family/resort type ones that have restaurants and bars with cheesy music blaring and tons of screaming kids (the only type I can find online), but more rustic, basic facility campgrounds, maybe located in/near the mountains for some nice hiking, riding routes, etc. All I'm finding online are the former ones, which I've no interest in. I have my own bike here in Barcelona with me, so location isn't a big deal. And any suggestions are great, but for my upcoming trip I'd rather go south of here, be a wee bit warmer this time of year. As always, beers owed for any help! |
Not quite Catalonia. Camping Ixea near Benasque, Huesca

Hey, no, that's all good, will probably be heading up that direction over the summer anyways, cheers!

I did stay in this place for a couple of nights last weekend, south of Tarragona, near Vallderrobres, called Camping El Roble. Campsite was grand, basic, clean toilets etc. Was a common area with sink, tables, chairs, etc, but no cooking facilities, fine if you're cooking yourself or eating out around local.
Camping was meant to be on the gravel lot (more for caravans I think), but if you ask nicely you can camp on the grassy field just above it. Was 18 Euros a night for just me, my tent and bike, but still, was a nice spot. Some excellent riding routes around there. Don't miss El Parrizal hiking route if in the area. Here's the campsite; Camping El Roble | Camping en el Matarraña |
Hey folks, can anyone help me before I crack up...!? :helpsmilie:
I'm looking online for campsites around Catalonia, and all I can find are those damn expensive gargantuan family-holiday-orientated hotel-esque campsites where you are guaranteed music blaring and other such annoyances. I've spent hours trawling through the internet for a website with good old fashioned honest to god campsites, and I'm getting nowhere. I don't mind paying for a campsite, but I don't want a big cheesy holiday park. I like rustic! :thumbup1: Anyone know any good websites that just have traditional 2 star :D campsites in Spain listed? Major beers owed for any help! beer :mchappy: |
I think you'll find they are few and far between - "rustic" doesn't make the owner any money when they could have all the goodies and charge lots!
How about wild camping? A little tricky but certainly possible in the Pyrenees. An in-between one - don't know the name - is adjacent to this hotel: Hotel Riberies Camí de Riberies Llavorsí, Spaingood luck! |
You'd be surprised Grant, I was in one last week in Southern Catalonia, was rustic as hell, and far from cheap haha. But yeah, I hear you!
Wild camping will most certainly be done at points, but sometimes it's nice to throw a tent in one spot and explore the area. Anyway, I'll check out that campsite mentioned above, and post any others I come across on here. Cheers! |
