Scotland - end of May
Hi, this is my first post and just wondering about a planned trip into Scotland.:thumbup1:
Any suggestions for 'must do / must see / must stay' places and routes would be brilliant. Also are there any of you Scotish bikers out there who would be willing to host me and my brother :stupid: for a night here or there and perhaps ride out with us too. Looking forwards to any replies. Thanks :scooter: |
Hi, i would suggest the North West of Scotland. Particularly Skye, Applecross, Ullapool and Durness. :welcome: The midgies have just started to come out to play so be prepared. Andy

Scotland
Dancer,
Lots to do and see around Scotland. We stay to the West of Aberdeen, not far from the Cairngorm National Park. Lots of great roads, camping and the likes. You're more than welcome to stop for a night and we'll point you in the right direction. Cheers, Hamish |
Western isles
Hi there, I would suggest that you look at going over to Skye and then take the ferry over to any of the Outer Isles especially Lewis and Harris. Calmac Ferries have brought the prices down quite a bit and the roads are excellent. I'm going over in July via Oban to South Uist, travelling up to North Uist, crossing over to Harris and then up to stornoway and acroos to Ulapool. Finally with a run up to Durnes over the North road and along the coast to John'o'Groats. A great run. Whatever you do enjoy and safe riding. :thumbup1:

The islands are definately a must. Mull and Skye are stunning. Applecross is a great spot, head over the pass, stay at the campsite, eat at the pub (GREAT food!) then take the north road round the coast to Torridon. Pretty much everywhere up the North West coast is beautiful.
May is often a great time - good weather and not so many midgies! Matt :) |

Thanks to you all
We are soon to put our itinery together, thank you all for the suggestions.
Looks like we will go in through Carlisle and up the west side, cross perhaps to inverness and return down the east side to visit friends in the Borders. :mchappy: Hamish, many thanks for you offer and I will get in touch when and if we come close. Thanks again. This is a great community. Neil:thumbup1: |
Hi Mike
Thanks for the personal message and invite to come stay in Edinburgh.
Unfortunately I could not reply untill I have made 8 posts. Seems like a strange rule, but now I'm up to 3. Cheers anyway Neil |

A must do stop on the way
Hello,
You must go through the Lake District on your way North. There are the six passes. Whinlatter, Newlands, Honister, Kirkstone, Wrynose and Hardnott that are the best circuit in England. See Saddleback Fred Whitton Challenge - Route Details for the route (yes we cycle it here to) I'll gladly guide you round and point show you places to stay if you drop me a note here. Regards Minyoman |
Ah' hem....
If you check the post date, I think they might have already been there... The high passes in the Lakes are great though, although I like to keep quiet about them, lets keep it to ourselves ? :scooter: PS - Coldfell is an awesum road too, as long as you don't try to go against the Sellafield traffic! |
Hi Just wondering if you had noticed the scottish section are having a mini meet on 28th may at Cannich just look under the uk meetings and all the details are there.
