Scotland to Europe Ferry

There's good news today, for those of us going from Scotland to the European mainland, and others going in reverse. :) The ferry route from Rosyth to Zeebrugge is being taken over by Norfolkline and will re-start in the Spring.

That's great news! I hadn't even had a chance to use the thing yet when it went poof. Now, if I can only hold on 'till Spring.:eek3:

Hooray , i am only a one hour ride away from the ferry port , anything that means i do not have to do the awful slog all the way down the motorway to the chunnel or dover ferry port,s is to be welcomed . and i hear that they are building a new ship just for this route, hence the delay until the spring , april/may of next year .

We always use the newcastle/ijmuiden (Amsterdam). From Edinburgh you get to bomb down the A68 (watching for cameras), and it's only 2 hours. It's cheaper than the Rosyth ferry was. I never used the Rosyth ferry due to cost.

It was about £80 dearer to go from Rosyth. I liked it though as I live about 20 miles from Rosyth and when you arrive back in Rosyth it was about 20 minutes to home. Arriving back in Hull it was 3 hours or so up the road to home.
The difference after the extra petrol was taken into it meant that the long drive home wasn't worth it to me. :)

I considered riding up for the Rosyth ferry last year. Was over £400 for a seat compared to just under £300 for a cabin from Newcastle. Always loads of bikes from Scotland on the Newcastle ferry.

Would be good if they take on the Scandinavian routes that DFDS have abandoned.
