Serbia -> Kosovo -> Montenegro?
Hello,
I am planning my summer trip to Romania, then to Montenegro and I have one question. At some point my favorite route would look like this: http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/5...110226godz.png link to map is here. So, from Serbia to Kosovo (just for a few kilometers) and finally to Montenegro. The only reason to enter Kosovo is to ride trough this National Park, which I find quite interesting. My question is – has anybody tried this way? Are there any problems at Serbia/Kosovo border? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Best regards from Warsaw, Poland, Rafal |
hello, i didn't know the answer to your question, but i can tell you whatever you wanna know about romania. if you want PM.
kind regards,cristian. |
Rafal,
the bordercrossing from Pec (Kosovo) to Murino (MNR) is closed and impassable. So I'd suggest to trvel from Pec to the Rugova canyon in Kosovo, return and travel north some kms. to exit the country on the road to Rozaje. I'm not quite sure about this border crossing, but the one at Pec is definitely closed. Further on I would suggest to visit the Durmitor NP in MNR. There is a beautiful dirt road going from the main road south of Zabljak directly westwards. You'll finally get to a small village called Trsa from where you descend steeply to the huge lake in the valley. Hans |

Vaufi (Hans) is correct about the closed road, but it's a fine ride up that direction anyway out of Pec: steep canyon, nice mountains and a road which gets smaller and smaller until it peters out completely in the woods. Probably you could explore a bit if you had a local guide of some sort and maybe some language skills. Beware of mines (they told me).
The route up to Rozaje is pretty and fun, and was open a couple of years ago with, to my surprise, local border guards rather than the usual UN troops. They seemed perturbed that I had no insurance, but they managed to get over it after a long discussion in sign language and arm-waving about world peace and related topics. Great area, great riding, good people. Hope that helps. mark |

Yep, that's the one. If you continue west to Pluzine from Trsa the road descends nearly vertically down. Absolutely brilliant! Another nice ride in MNR is the Tara canyon and around the bay of Kotor with its mountainous backdrop. Enjoy your trip! Hans |
If you need any help regarding Montenegro, drop me a line or email. I will be more than happy to assist.

Hello,
Came down that way recently, 3-4 weeks ago, border from Serbia into Kosovo no problem at all, 15 euros for some insurance and a quick check of the passports. We went from Kosovo into Albania, is via a nice road to ride, on the Albanian side they've just finished a huge motorway right down to the coast, not exactly a mountain trail but it's a pretty impressive feat on engineering, and it's empty, and fast :-) From there you could always head up into Montenegro as it's pretty close to the southern border.
