Sharp objects on UK ferries

After last years firewood debacle, I'm planning on carrying a small axe/dry wall hammer on the outfit to split logs/get at the dry bit for the winter rallies. I was planning to mount this externally (with a cover) as it's something that can get wet and still work. I was just about to start making a holder to go alongside my shovel when I had a horrible thought. Will the Elf-n-safety/knife monitors at Hull docks want to treat me like a murderer and take 20-quids worth of B&Q's ****est ironwear off me? Better to keep it hidden along with my knife, fire lighters and whatever else could probably get me locked up?

Anyone had hassle with auxilliary tanks or jerry cans either? My auxilliary tank usually goes on the boat with waterproofs packed round it, but empty in case they want to check. With the fuel price difference I'm tempted to have it half full.

Cheers

Andy

I've travelled repeatedly into Europe and to date have not any issues about either the large axe mounted to the back of the Landrover or the Jerry cans mounted on the roof rack. That's not to say someone couldn't get excited about it but unlikely, particularly if they are properly mounted and just not an issue.

The only times I was always checked were on the UK side!
Axe aboard as well as carving tools etc + 6 jerries- Keep all sharps in touring case or box- never carry- keep them out of sight-
I have never been checked on the French side-
Problem is that fuel is very dear in France at 1.32 Euro a litre :censored: so can understand wanting to fuel up here!

I was at Portsmouth docks a couple of years ago when the secutiy got upset about the ex-army land-rover in front of me with an axe secured to the side. When asked if I'm carrying sharp objects I always say no and hope they don't see the multitool on my belt or the corkscrew in my luggage!

I don't know where you're filling up or what octane either.
But round here a typical supermarket price is a bit less than 1.20 euro per litre for 95 octane.
Motorways are much more expensive and probably around the figure you've mentioned.
