Spain and Portugal in December

I am planning on getting the ferry to Bilbao in mid December.I want to go to Lisbon in Portugal to watch the start of the Paris Daker.
I will be using a yamaha xt 600. I have not been traveling by motorcycle in europe before and dont plan on doing mega miles per day maybe 2-300 max.
I will take a tent but think it might be to cold so would like any advice on cheap places to stay or any where to visit.
I am hoping the weather will be warmer if I head south from Lisbon after boxing day.
What do you think?
