Spanish Punctures
I am trundling down to Northern Spain/Basque Country soon for a jaunt around the coast roads and mountains, having fallen in love with the area last summer. The roads are great and I saw a fair few bikes around, but how is it for tyre-unfriendly road debris and puncture (and general for that matter) repair places (bit of a puncture wimp I confess)? Not into being macho with tyre levers I admit; I prefer riding. (And getting to the wine).

I've no idea about garages there, but make sure you carry some sort of repair kit. You can either get a can of foam to inject va the valve, or those little plug kits with CO2 bulbs to re-inflate afterwards. They'll get you to somewhere you can get it fixed at your leisure. Have a bottle of wine while you're waiting... :-)
No need to bother with tyre levers etc. |
Spent two days in Northern spain with two other bikes last month, did a lot of miles and no punctures. Roads usually better than UK! Smaller roads can be pretty crap.
If you are worried about punctures get Euro RAC/AA cover. Cheapest way is to get it with your insurance. They were great for our Forth rider. he crashed in teh Alps and was recovered and given a hire car for the rest of the journey. Take your mobile phone. Have fun! |
