Swap for a trip in Spain (Europe) to Australia, mid/ south America, Canada

I am living in the South of Spain, have a 2013 BMW F800GS (fully equiped for long trips), available for you to make a trip through Spain / Europe (Maroc). I will help in all aspects and am quite experienced for trips in Europe (have travelled from Spain to Norway and all in between and Maroc). I would like to make a trip of 4-5 weeks in Australia, Canada, Mid or South America) hoping you can cater me with an comparable bike. For me time is not a limitation, but don't want to drive in bad wheather.

Hi Thijs, I live in Perth Australia and am looking to travel Europe in late May, June, July. I have a BMW K1200RS. My plan is to buy a bike in Europe and travel on that and sell when I leave. Is there any issue with a Australian with international license buying a bike and travelling in Europe? How do I go getting insurance?

I can help you with information and a base to start in Perth if your interested in coming this way...

Thanks,John

buying moto in Europe

Hi John,
I tried to get info on that issue from the net. In Spain is required a NIE (Identification number) and a registration from a local comunity. That will be difficult as you do not live there. I advise you to call for info to the Spanish Ambassy in Australia. They can procide you with a NIE and should know what else you need. Of course you need an Int'l driving license. Once yuo aqare legal owner, insurance will not be a problem. Right now I am in the Netherlands and will ask for info tomorrow with the licensing authorities and let you know. I live partially in Holand, partially in Spain. Perhaps it is more easy in the UK, as Australia is also part of the commonwealth. But I don't know.
Perth is not directly an option for me. My daughter lives in VIC and I want to visit her

I called with the RDW (Authority to license bikes). It is not possible to register a bike on your name if you don't have a residence here (Netherlands). A solucion could be, that someone else buys and insures the bike, so that you are allowed to drive it. I think Spain is easier, if you have a NIE and would go to the town hall (e.g. in my town) and give them an adres (e.g. a hotel weher you stay or womeones place, they will register you without much harrassment. I could ask, when I am back in Spain.
Succes!!
