Taking your motor bike on a train in France !!
Hi guys,
Quick question, I plan on meeting family in Bordeaux this summer. The boring option is to jump into the car and drive down, but I'm sure I've read about taking your bike on the train, SNCF or TGV I don't remember which. I would plan on riding to Lille where there is a direct train to Paris Noord, then to Bordeaux. Is there any coastal "green lanes" you can ride on, I know a lot of the coast line is a National Park .... Many thanks in advance Matthew XT600 Ténéré Gent Belgium |
There is an auto/train Paris-Bordeaux. You can't seem to get any info about it online. Suggest you go and see either your local railway station or a travel agent.
It may be cheaper to fly down there, if a budget airline does this route, and then rent a bike for a few days. ------------------ Salut from Southern France, the bikers' paradise, Peter. |
Why not ride down to Bordeaux?

A friend of a friend who works in Paris sends his bike to a destination by normal auto train then follows it down a day later on the TGV when he wants to do a weekend tour, but needs to save time. He says it's very simple to do.

Many thanks for the link, I found the SNCF website but not additional information on the route. The only reason for taking the train would be time and 900kms is a long ride in one day.
I'll find out what the price is and post it here for peoples reference.... Many thanks Matt |
hello,
SERNAM works with SNCF, see those links under : http://www.voyages-sncf.com/info_res...s_Domicile.htm http://www.sernam.fr/ good search |
Other option is using the German rail (Deutsche Bahn).
They have regulag connections out of Dusseldorf (3hours ride for you I think) to a variety of destinations in the Southern Europa. We are taking a train to Verona in May. Do a search on 'Deutsche Bahn' on Google and then 'autozug'. |
Hey
I've taken the train from Paris several times to Toulouse with my bike. Its not very expensive, about 150 euros I think, to Bordeaux I'd guess something like 100 euro. It only goeqs saturdays or sundays if my memory is correct. Gare de Bercy, in front of passenger station (gare) austerlitz, their is a shuttle between the both stations. Now you could ride, I just went up thru the Loire valley etc until here in Ireland where I now am. And the route is very beautiful, you can stop drink a beer near every famous castle and lay down for a rest in the parks. From Belgium to Bordeaux, the best option is to ride it, but be carefull in sumertime on those small national roads, french allready drive like crazy, though you'll also have the confused tourists with their cars! Have a nice journey Matt |
