That little bit of Bosnia by the sea.

Has anyone any experience crossing the sliver of Bosnia that interupts the Croatian borders. Its the D8 on either Croatian sides and M2/E65 in Bosnia.
Google maps shows it as 9 miles.
Just interested to find out if the Bosnians will charge for insurance for it?

I passed through there last year and was not asked although I already had from passing through Bosnia a week before.

I've no direct experience but I'll be passing for same way this summer and I've seen a few comments about people being pulled and checked. I'm guessing it's like most things, you'd probably get through fine but it's a risk.

Crossed that bit several times over the years, never asked for insurance, only one time had to show passport that was just a quick flash not looked at. The main thing they've always looked at is the GB sticker on back, then let me on my way, hardly even stopped.

Of course if you are stopped or have an "incident" and haven't any insurance you may have a bad day.

The requirement for insurance for Bosnia is overlooked if you're just passing straight through to Croatia, there's not even a facility to buy it there. If you turn inland into Bosnia "proper" you will come across another border post that does check your documents and stamp your passport.

Thanks all. That will be a few extra euro in the drinks fund then.

And before I do a search, any of you gone Montenegro to Macedonia recently?
Cant make up my mind. Only have two weeks holiday, but wanted a taste of both really.

I've got the southern Balkans tucked away as a project when I can get a month off to give it justice. Stick to Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia if you've only two weeks, especially Bosnia as it's a fascinating place.

g6snl 20 May 2016 18:17

Totally agree with Tourider, you can find plenty in the three countries mentioned. Especially if you are coming from UK? Trying to cram in more Balkan's would be a bit of a rush in my opinion. But of course that's not to say it can't be done if that's you kinda thing.

I planed to include Macedonia in a trip one time going via Croatia, Montenegro & Albania, this was my third in those parts. I got as far as Montenegro, spent two weeks there ! Next time I got to Albania :) It's a fab part of the world ( I say that about everywhere I think? ) worth taking some time in each.

Just smile and wave :thumbup1:

Usually they just let you through, especially in the summer time.

Did this area last year Bosnia only wanted to see passport and v5. I had a green card to cover it so not bothered. Montenegro was great, we stayed on kotor bay, really enjoyed the place. The border there is a,proper one, passport, v5 and green card, but there is an insurance booth if needed. There is a bus that does the south side of kotor bay every forty five minutes,, it's cheap :D
