Tires (tyres) in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary
Hi, I am planning a trip to the Balkans this summer but will be going from England in a loop via Krakow, Poland. I have up to 2000 miles left on my Metzeler Tourance tires before they will need replacing. As it will be mainly motorways all the way to Krakow, I see no point in changing them until I get onto twisty / mountain roads. Can anyone recommend somewhere where I can pre-order tires for my BMW R1150GS (balancing the rear can be an issue!) & then turn up to get them fitted? Anywhere in southern Poland, eastern Slovakia or Hungary will do (even Romania if it is central - I'm not going as far as Bucharest).
I will be away from late June (after the UK HU meet) until late July, heading towards Bulgaria, Albania, Serbia, Croatia - if anyone fancies meeting up? Drob |
I'll ask about balancing the R1150GS at Vilati Bike in Eger, Hungary. I have an office next door to them and I know they supply and fit tyres.
Cheers, Paul |
Hi Drob
we are in that area from early to mid july , effectively doing the same loop as you but backwards :mchappy: can post our route and overnight stays if you want to meet for a pivo/piva . we will have internet capability as my mate is a techie so contacting us shouldnt be an issue . |
Paul in Eger, that is very kind of you, it would be great if I could get the wheel balanced. My itinerary takes me close to Eger (maybe a bit further east) but it is very flexible. So if I could order tire in advance, then just turn up, that would be great!

Hi, we popped into the bike shop on Friday but the guy couldn't say whether he could balance the rear wheel until he sees the bike so I wouldn't like to commit to him being able to do it.
Why is it a tricky job? |
Paul,
The R1150GS has a single-sided swing arm with 4 bolts holding the wheel onto the shaft drive, so may require a special tool / adapter to attach it to the balancing machine. It's not critical, but a well balanced wheel results in a smoother ride and apparently, better tire wear... Thanks for asking all the same, Rob |
