Trans Euro Trail
We're making significant progress as riders from all over Europe on the creation of a Trans Euro Trail - a community owned, developed and maintained legal dirt route through Europe to rival or surpass the Trans America Trail.
The aspiration is to have available a route from the North Cape in Norway to Tarifa in Spain with one arm running through Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, UK, France, Andorra, Spain and Portugal and the other through Finland, the Baltic sates, eastern Europe, Greece, The Balkans, Italy and France before joining the other in Andorra. It will for riders, by riders. We have over 24,000km already and are filling in the gaps and recce'ing the route. Our project has caught the imagination of the UK's top adventure bike equipment outlet, Adventure Spec, and they are supporting us with server space, media design, a logo, clothing etc We hope to move from a private FB group to a more accessible website in early 2017 and to that end have registered Trans Euro Trail – Just another WordPress site as a domain and created a holding website where interested riders can subscibe to be informed when we go live - and there is an email there for folk that want to get more involved in its development sooner. The overall idea is to allow riders to experience a genuine overland travelling experience in Europe and is aimed at those who wish to travel light on small and medium size bikes using local markets, hostels, refuges, campsites and wild camping, seeing some of the best of Europe's scenery and sites and travelling through the remoter rural regions of our continent. By keeping to legal trails and roads we hope to not upset the "antis", bring a little business to the back of beyond through servicing our daily needs and provide the opportunity for like minded people to cooperate and meet through a shared passion. It would be nice in addition to this to make some contribution to worthy causes along the way. As stated above, first point of call is the TransEuroTrail website. cheers john |
Looks like an interesting idea - will follow this with interest!

There's a thread giving more info and maps at: Trans Europe Trail Ideas ??? | Adventure Rider

I would be interested in this. I live in the Algarve Portugal and have done most of the Trans Algarve trail and I have a GPX file for a Trans Portugal (North-South) route that I have not ridden yet. This is a trip I was hoping to do April (ish) time 2017.
At the moment im on my own for it so if anyone fancies it they are welcome to come along. If the route turns out to be good then it may be a contribution to your project. |
Very interesting...
I have just subscribed for updates and will watch with interest. cheers, Simon. |
Great idea and i will be monitoring closely. On my bucket list...
|
cool!
But you'll have to update that map on the website... . There's many more countries on the balkans these days... |
On that topic, you might also want to give the Czech Republic and Slovakia their independence back :cool4:
|
Will there be a shortcut from the Netherlands to France without needing two ferry's to go to the UK and back ?
|
Outstanding idea!
I am available for sections in the southern part of Austria/Slovenia. |
thanks for all the enthusiasm - apologies for the map - reporesentative of the idea rather than detailed in geography!
Please e-mail me on info@transeurotrail.org if you can help out with routes and recce-ing. The areas where there are still gaps are Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Belgium (for that NL to F link skipping the UK and ferries). Work ongoing in Estonia, Portugal, Romania and Bulgaria but any info for there also gratefully received! All the best john |

Dip in and see what you think! Home - Trans Euro Trail |
You guys turned my bucket list upside down.
You are role models. Thank you so much for the efforts and most of all for sharing. Wauschi |
The TET is "officially open" and all the info is on their TET webpage!
Check it out, several of our folks are "linesmen" in charge of various areas. We are supporting the effort as best we can and will be linking to it and back to our Destinations section of the new HU website. |
I rode some of the TET back in June through France and Spain, had a great time and would recommend anyone giving it a ago, the routes were amazing. A massive thanks to all involved for creating and maintaining it.
