Turkey, can I leave my UK registered bike in the country

Hi, I'm planning on taking my UK registered bike to Turkey in August. While there I'd like to fly to Iran for a week or so. I'm not taking the bike (2011 R1200GSA) due to the cost of the carnet.
Is it possible to leave the bike or will I get customs issues trying to leave without it?

ta,

JC

Tried a similar thing in 2011 but can cause problems. Your bike is recorded against your passport on entry to Turkey and you cant leave the country without it. You can arrange for it to be stored with local police/customs but they charge a daily rate and if I remember was just crazy money. I have a friend out there and he gave up trying to arrange to ride his bike over and leave it there so he could use it so ended up waiting for his residency then bought one of the local Chinese import scoots.

I left my bike in Göcek for four months while I went back to work. If you go to a customs agent with an actual Turkish address where the bike is being kept with copies of all your paperwork and permission from the addressee that customs can come and check that the bike is not in use or has been sold, you can do it.

I've left Turkey by plane and returned to my bike by plane but I haven't ridden out of Turkey yet. So far so good.

I can tell you where to do it Fethiye if that helps.

NOT RECOMMENDED....
Turkish Customs Laws for vehicles is the one recommended by EU. and 2,5 years old..So many officers dont know the rules yet...Thats why you need time and patience and you may not meet a problem very SOON if you do
something wrong..

WHY...

Airport, seaport and landport customs for vehicles are different divisions here on com. programs and they can't check eachother on the system...Ins/outs are checked twice a year by the Ministry authorities on the computer files in Ankara...

If you make regular in with vehicle via a port then irregular exit (without vehicle) via a different port-customs during this period, you will be fined at your following entrance and will not be allowed to reenter the country until you pay your fines..

As you will read in the translations of the forms below, only you are responsible for the paperwork done...After signed and stamped,no correction requests will be accepted...

HOW YOU CAN DO IT IF YOU ARE IN NEED...
-You can do it yourself...Its free..Patience needed for 1-2 days...Better to choose a quiet customs office in small towns..Forms are in Turkish.

1-Your safe parking area.
Fill the anex-7 forms with asked documents,do the formalities you will be told, get the written permission to leave the country without vehicle.Parking outside customs must be confirmed by customs manager...
ANNEX: 7
COMMITMENT LETTER FOR PERSONS TO GO ABROAD WİTHOUT VEHICLES

2-Customs parking area.
Fill the Anex-8 form with asked documents, park the vehicle where and how you are told then get the written permission..-You can do it only for 1 month at each application. You have to extend the period before the permission exceeds...Rule.417.
ANNEX: 8
TEMPORARY DEMISE/ABONDONMENT LETTER
Parking fee 7 USD/Day in İstanbul..

TRANSLATION OF THE WRITTEN AND STAMPED PERMISSION YOU WILL BE GIVEN...
-İlgili şahsın yurtdışına çıkışı esnasında pasaportunda bulunan “taşıt kaşesinin” dikkate alınmadan, taşıtsız olarak
yurtdışına çıkışına izin verilmesi uygun bulunmuştur.
Yetkilinin Unvan ve İmzası

-It’s approved to permit the relevant person’s exit abroad without considering “The vehicle seal” existing on his
passport during exit abroad
The Title and the Signature of the Authority

TRANSLATIONS OF FORMS...
anex 7..
ANNEX: 7

Mehmet- this is very interesting because from around mid-June next year (2014) I am hoping to temporarily store my Transalp for approximately three months somewhere in Turkey (arriving from Iran).

You see, I will need to go back to England for those three months to attend work. If I don't then I fear I will lose my job.

I will return to Turkey around the following early-mid October to ride the bike all the way home to England.

Are you suggesting that I should re-think my plans and consider temporary storage in an Eastern EU country instead?

Thanks

Keith

Unfortunately, still a nightmare here and almost impossible in big towns....Hope changes soon..Lets keep in touch..

I remember a friend who has left his bike in Tehran for a while..May be Richard (NL).Just asked him on facebook..

So definitely in an EU.country..Can recommend Doug's place in Bulgaria,Idilevo..
Chris Bright also parked his transalp there for winter sleeping!!!!
Doug,Poly,Ivo great friends...

Just been informed by Richard who did so last year....Thanks a lot.
1-IRAN..Illegal to leave the country without the vehicle.
2-GREECE..Possible and secured garage in Athens...

All the best..

Leaving bike in Turkey

Mehmet, your post that leaving the bike in Turkey is NOT recommended was pretty recent, so I assume that has not changed. In that case, would you be able to recommend a shipping agent to ship my motorcycle (Kawasaki GPs 1100) by sea or air to California? Thanks for your help.

Rules are same..
1-Visa 90 days for you and 180 days for your vehicle.
2-that is the only legal way to keep your vehicle in Turkey while you are outside the country for a while.

But never leave the country without having the exit stamp for the bike on your same passport page next to the entrance one..

Have no recommended airfreight or seafreight agents in İstanbul anymore...

All the best

Keith, I have no connection to them but heard good things about MotoCamp in Bulgaria (they've hosted a HU event there too)
