Turkey VISA problems for USA citizens
Sat down to do my E-VISA for Turkey, it is a no go.
Apparently There is a spitting contest going on between USA and Turkey governments and they have stopped all tourist VISAs for USA citizens. Anyone know if this is a short term problem or do I revise my travel plans and skip Turkey?:cool4: I was about a week out from Turkey so if they don't all get over their problems Turkey will have to come off my list for this year at least. :scooter:Bob |
Reports today say both countries have stopped issuing visas because a US embassy Turkish employee was arrested. Also another employees family has been detained. No point trying to decide who blinked first, but USA made the first move this time. Worst case it might go on until USA agrees to extradite Gülen over last year's coup attempt, especially since both countries are ruled by crazies with no diplomatic skills.

Oh well, time to get the map out and look for alternatives. Anyone know if there is a ferry from Greece to Cyprus? That was where I was headed.

Possibly... try Grimaldi. I think they stop in Cyprus on their way to Israel.
Not sure they go from Greek though: definitely Italy... |
I believe in that Visa problem will be solved but not sooner than 10-15 days.
Erdogan and also Turkish citizens angry at US about backing/supporting coup of July 15 together with Gulen. US asks for some arrested US citizens from Turkey but refuse to send back Gulen. May be it will be solved but we can be sure we will see some more duel between two countries as Turkiye no more following rules given by US. Of course US is not used to an ally like this. |
