Two UK friends stuck in Poland. Looking for a local contact
I have two friends on holiday in Gdansk who have found themselves trapped by all the flights being cancelled.
What would be really handy for them right now is someone local to Gdansk who they could ask questions. What might be possible for getting them home. Maybe even helping them buy a car to drive back to uk! Could that be you? |
If they're thinking of buying a car why not get a bus (buses) back to UK? If the borders are closed then buying a car would be a waste of time and money.

The border into Poland is closed, so buses are not crossing as to do so would mean they could not return.
Think I’ve found a local now. Thanks anyway! |
Might be too late, but...
I was also stuck in Bialystok, Poland ( I am cycling and was headed east to Belarus & the Baltic States, but the borders closed on me on Saturday ). Time to backtrack and head back home but all international trains, buses stopped running almost immediately. Almost all flights out of Poland were also cancelled. You are still able to leave the country though, that's what I just did ( yesterday ). Get to Szczecin on the German border by train. Then hitch a ride on the highway to Berlin just west of town. It is still open. All other options/roads are sealed off. It is mostly trucks on the road because of the restrictions for regular folks. There are still no controls/restrictions to get into Germany yet but it might change soon. Hope that helps. |
Too late but in a good way - they managed to get a (very expensive!) flight today and are back in the country!
Whether that’s actually a better place to be remains to be seen. Thank you!! |
