Tyres and Parts in Turkey/ greece
 

I imagine that turkey will be the first service point on my round the world trip.

I have read somewhere that if I bring my own spares into turkey such as tyres etc, I am likely to be hit with a large customs bill for bringing items in or shipping them in to Turkey.

I'm trying to work out how available parts and Tyres are likely to be in Turkey and if they are likely to be much more expensive than buying in Europe. Also will I be able to get the parts I require.

My bike is a CCM with a DRZ400 engine.

I could have a service pack shipped to somewhere in greece (Thessaloniki?) as with that being an EU country I wont be incurring any import tax and this way I know all the parts I need will be in there. EG: Tyres, Chains, Sprockets, Gaskets Service Parts.

No problem if you enter Turkey with spare tyres and parts..If they are sent by a courrier service,they always make it customs purposes to earn more..Generally all spare parts, tyres available here almost same prices..Also recommend you a good pit stop just at the exit of the toll road before entering rush istanbul traffic..We are usually there...If you make it a weekend visit,you can share free camping and barbecue in the forest with us..That is a meeting point for us and foreign bikers travelling between 2 continents.

anyway don't be scared bringing spares or triers with you in to Turkey... you are not talking about big amounts is it..

went to Turkey with a spare rear tire strapped to the bike and no one ever bothered about it... some where here on the HU I have read that the Turkish border guys may get a bit iffy if you carry more than two tires and it may appear that your may rather sell them than using them your self.

Now a CCM is not a big Beemer battleship, there for you would not be able to carry lots of spares anyway... don't worry, just take what you can carry next to your usual kit and you would be ok...

Regarding Alexandropolis, well there is a big and very cheap nice with WiFi, open all year round, just before you get in to the city, right next to the beach. (it's a municipal camping place very recommended to stay there before you hit the border to Turkey) there should be a bike workshop in walking distance to the camp side but I was not able to find it... but I found one on the opposite side of town where all the shops and cash machines are...

One more tip... do not use the Motorway, just carry on riding parallel to the motorway on the country lane and you bypass all the tailback traffic, ending up right next to the border post right in the front...

Turkey is nice, lots of helpful people where ever you go.

Thanks for your help guys looks like I'll be ok then, I don't really want carry loads of spares with me. So just working out what I can get in country.

If you are coming down through Hungary, I can recommend a cheap bike shop that has a wide range of parts.

Hi, I was in Xanthia( Greece ) which is not too far from Turkey. There was a number of motorcycle dealers which were helpful and friendly. Nice place for a stop over. Andy

I remember you two Hell-riders on the right in that picture.... we where sitting together at you camp, chatting and joking with some Cay or was it beer (yeah must have been beer)... do you remember that British and that German guy who gave you a few of this KTM scarf's ?

Fantastic Mister Fox... sorry for hijacking your post... but.. well if you go to Istanbul I highly recommend you to see Mehmet, he and his friend will help you out and I'm sure you could let some spares and or tires be shipped to them, even before you cross the Turkish border... you may ask "Prisoner621" (that's the British guy I meed in Alexandropoli and the Bursa festival) he did spend a few days with Mehmet in Istanbul while he had to wait for his Iran visa last year.

In addition,safe address available at dogbiscuit (close to Iran bordergate) for your parcels to pick up there..Many UK. friends did so this year,lately Henry Nottage..Close friends all over the country..

Even we don't meet eachother. drop me a message wherever or whenever you need inf. or friendly support..

@spooky..The world is realy very small,.yesterday got a message from Mongolia, my korean friend and French friends had met eachother there.

This year planning to participate Bursa and Balıkesir festivals,collect all the 3 cups and prizes..
Will participate on 5 KTM,1 KAWAZAKI,1 BMW. there together with 4-5 foreign biker friends..

Tires in Dogubayazit or Van?
 

We might need two sets of tires 130/80-17 and 100/90-19, when we reach Turkey.

Is it possible to get such tires in Dogubayazit or Van or have them delivered ot one of these cities from somewhere else in TR?
