Uk/ireland
hello,
I will travel from France to UK and Ireland last week , i'm surprised for camping prices , 30 euros one night it's 3 times over France prices !!!! is there a cheaper option my wife and I just need a small piece of land to pitch our tent and a shower ! many thanks to you all Mickael |
I've just checked the prices of a good campsite I know in the Lake District which is £25, or ~€30, for one night for two people camping. So your UK price sounds about right.
But then I checked a site in France that I've stayed at during two French HU events, which is Sites et Paysages Les Hirondelles at Loupiac, and this is showing €41 for one night for two people camping. You need to bear in mind that August is high season. I think you would struggle beyond all imagination to find a decent campsite in France in August for less than €10. |
A lot of UK campsites seem to have gone to fixed price for a plot regardless of whether you are on a bicycle with a small tent or a Range Rover towing a large caravan and five people, as I am the former I usually wild camp but I know that is not to everyones taste. I suspect you are going to have to pay or if there is a HUBB community member near where you plan to stop ask there if they can advise.

As Tim says, August is peak holiday season, so prices are highest and availability is lowest. Campsites do have running costs, with grounds maintenance and the provision of shower/toilet blocks, so it's never going to be free - and there are few places where wild camping is allowed. In September, when schools have gone back, prices may come down a little, but £15 is about the going rate.
