Ukraine Green Card ?

Hi,

I'm spending around 9 weeks travelling around Central Europe , Balkans and down to Greece Peloponnese starting from home ( N. Scotland ) on the 27th July.
I'll be visiting Krakow for a few days before heading down to Bulgaria to meet my partner and the most obvious route from Eastern Poland is down through Western Ukraine, following the Carpathian Mountains.

I can get travel insurance with ' war risk ' but I've come to a dead end while trying to find some form of third party vehicle cover for my XT1200 !
Nothing sold in the UK will be valid as FCDO advice automatically invalidates this, Lobagola can't help and I have emailed some others without reply.

Someone checked for me a few weeks back to see if there was anything available at the border but there wasn't...and he went in without any insurance but I'd rather not do that.

Anyone heard or know of anything ?

Mike.

Are you sure about this? Have you asked your insurance company and/or the FCDO ?

I don´t know and maybe you are right but there are people who just asume something without knowing for sure.

Have you used google?

From the op’s post it seems he has done his research but come up short.

...is it though?

If I needed to get from Krakow to Bulgaria, even before the war, I would far prefer to go through the High Tatras NP in Slovakia, then cut across Debrecen (assuming I did not have time for Budapest) and into Romania for the Transalpina/Transfagarasan and the southwestern national parks.

I also will ask if you are certain about this.

Most travel/medical insurance policies will not cover claims if you travel against the advice of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, but why should third party vehicle cover be affected?

Cover.

My motorcycle insurance provider have stated that they will not provide any form of cover.
I have already obtained travel insurance from within Ukraine.

And yes, I have used Google..

Thanks.

I have travelled all the routes you have mentioned previously and this time I would like to transit through Western Ukraine..

We seem to be talking UK insurers. Any excuse to welch on the bet and they'll take it. If in doubt they say no.

And this is exactly why I asked this question here !
I've been trying to find short term Green Card cover 'outwith' the UK but without success.

Thanks Andy :thumbup1:

A re-think..

My initial thought was to take as much as I could carry in the form of toiletries, socks, colouring pads and crayons..or anything small and simple that might be useful there.
And then I read this ;

https://www.abi.org.uk/products-and-...kraine-crisis/

And then this ;

https://www.cobx.org/highcharts-maps

So I called up my insurers again and quoted these links...same response, sorry but no !

.................

We are hosting a Ukrainian couple and they are regularly in touch with back home. They don't need anything (at least that could be carried on a bike), they just need the end of the war.

As for insurance, I totally get wanting to arrange it in advance, but I reckon you're looking at buying at the border.

But it's still nice to make the effort, regardless.

As for buying at the border..someone checked out two crossings for me just a few weeks back and there was nothing available..so he went in without insurance.
I will go to the border and check and I will also carry something to give.

Insurance for anyone who might be interested.

I'll try at the border.

I did get a reply from this company who were willing to offer cover, but at 260 Euro for a minimum of one month.
But at least they are willing to provide so it might be an option for travellers going to other countries for longer periods ?
